  1. Anyone have any experience working at either of these? I know Kaiser in general has a bad rep but it does very from hospital and unit . Any information appreciated.
  2. And that was your only Cali income for the tax year? Sheesh 5% on $1250 is a bit steep. Thanks for the info.
  3. The reason I am asking is NYC-8.8% has a high income tax rate similar to Cali however if you are not a resident you get most of it back. I was wondering if Cali is the same, evidently not. By the way I live in Oh too tax rate is 4.99% Cali is sliding scale up 10 13.9%. would probably be in the 9.3% bracket so that affects the net.
  4. Question for all travelers who have done assignments in Cali but are not residents. Do you get most of the Cali taxes back? Anyone have thoughts on high hourly(fastaff) vs. tax advantage? Thanks! Nancy PS I got my 8 year renewal for Cali in 4 weeks to the day. (livescan)

It depends on the unit and their need and their comfort level with you. I AM a NICU travel nurse. I have had vents/fresh post ops at some hospitals and growers at others. It is one of the first questions I ask in and interview. "what acuity can I expect to be assigned?" I have turned down grower/feeder offers.
  6. I have an attic apt 5 min from the hospital. I had a friend that worked here a long time ago. Haven't heard anything bad, usually the first you hear is bad. I can do anything for 11 weeks.í ½í¸€ how's the testing?
  7. I'm starting Monday too in comp. Then Thursday testing. NICU rotating. And I'm from Morrow :-) . Getting ready to drive to Cleveland at 230ish. I'm staying at the Tudor Arms-doubletree tonight.
  8. Hey Melissa, when do you start? I'm starting monday.
  9. Thanks Ned. I thought it was odd especially as I'm and Ohio resident. That makes sense. It is a LARGE teaching hospital in Cleveland. Lots of international visitors/observors/resident.
  10. I'm getting ready to do an assignment in Ohio, the hospital is requiring a fingerprint BCI. Is this something new? I have had them done for a license but not a specific hospital. Thanks!

Hi! I have a good O/T rate but I have a q. Has anyone negotiated an extra shift bonus when staffing is low? The hospital I am at now just started offering $1000/shift extra to staff. The amazing thing is they have excellent ratios. 1:1 or 2, rarely 3 in NICU. for Feb/march they had "code yellow" for staffing $500/shift. Thanks.

yes the mileage/car expense deduction is fairly straight forward IRS pub 463 Travel, Entertainment, gift and car expenses clearly states you can deduct standard mileage when away from tax home and even cites a construction worker for an example. But as ADMIN TraumaRUs stated consulting your tax specialist is a good idea.
  13. Hi, I am heading to Children's Dallas. Start 9/8. Is anyone there currently or going there? Just looking for info, travel buddy...... thanks! Nancy
  14. Thanks, Ned. I was hoping that was the case.
  15. Does anyone have experience or information in doing agency at your tax home with a company that also has a travel division? I am wondering if the employment agreement for local agency would impede taking a travel assignment with a different company, out of town, where the home agency also has contracts? for example: i want to work for comp x locally per diem agency. I get a contract offer with company Y (my usual travel comp)out of state . Comp x has the same position offered through there travel division. Would there be a conflict? Nancy
