Do Nurses STILL want to marry Doctors?

Published

REALITY CHECK!

After reading some of other threads, a theme of nurse-doctor dating/marrying prevails...

I thought we were past that...maybe not.

Reminds me of the throwback nurses of the 1950's and 1960's who were gah-gah over the television characters Dr. Kildare and Dr. Ben Casey...

...or the nurses of the 1970's who cooed over the television character Dr. Marcus Welby and also actor James Brolin...(Forgive I can't remember if James Brolin Performed in TV program Marcus Welby, MD or Medical Center)...

I thought we were all past that...

I can remember some women, yes women, admitting to entering the nursing profession in order "to meet and marry a doctor."...

I don't get it.

Are we still salivating the ancient fantasies of the past?

Do Nurses STILL want to marry Doctors?

Same here. There's just nothing hotter than a big sweaty Marine. Oorah! :)

Army! ;)

Yikes. I definitely am not obsessed with doctors. I pretty much never think of them except when I'm sick or in a work related context. I think some of the nurses I work with get a little too into the doctors but most of them don't. They're just people -- some are attractive and great and some aren't.

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of marrying a doctor but it would not be a goal of mine and it's not a goal of any of my friends, though a couple are dating residents.

What the heck does a man's profession have to do with it? I'll tell you. MD's, dentists, lawyers, engineers etc were considered a "good catch" by women when women stayed home and expected to be taken care of. These professions were perceived as being rich.

There are still women who want to be marry rich so they do not have to take care of themselves. They never once considered that they would share their man with his profession and that his profession offered drawbacks to family life because being married to someone rich was their measure of marrying well not if they had a good relationship. After all with enough money it was thought you don't need a good relationship.

Are there little girls in women's clothes today? you bet.

look at the number or Mrs. Donald Trumps there are as just one example.

Engaged to a heavy metal musician.... he doesn't make much money but I adore him and he (for some strange reason) loves me just as I am, warts and all. And I don't mean that in an esteem issue way.. he knows my strengths, weaknesses, stupid obsessions, and how I'm fiercely protective of my family. In short, he lets me be me, and still loves me.... I'm gonna hang on to this one, so I'll skip the Doc.

LMAO....this thread is hilarious! I think probably women that are NOT nurses still fantasize about marrying a doctor. I have a friend that is actually a hospital administrator and she is on a mission to marry one of them. All i can say that she has "hooked up" with some of them, but i haven't seen any real relationships come to fruition.

There are still women who want to be marry rich so they do not have to take care of themselves.

You really think this is all about money? From what I've seen, what attracts nurses to doctors has more to do with common career interests, a shared desire to help people, and many things to talk about that non-health care people just don't get.

The majority of nurse/doc dating and marriages I have seen have occurred during medical school and residency, when the pre-doc/MD has zero money. The nurses I dated as a medical student were far more likely to pay for dates than I was, simply because I was so broke all the time. One even loaned me her car for two months. That was awesome. :)

I got married before I started NS, silly me, so I guess I missed out. The first time I started, one of my instructors said something to me in the coffee line about, "I hope you're not one of those girls who's just here to find yourself a doctor to marry!" I explained to her that no, I was already married to a regular guy and I had actually gone to school to become a nurse. Katrina flooded that school a week later, so I never really got to know her. Where I'm at now, I was surprised by a couple of classmates the other day, who told us all how their parents biggest recommendation when they went to college was to study at the med school library so they could find a husband. Am I weird? My parents never pushed me to marry anyone, and always taught me to depend on myself. When I got married my husband made less than I did, although he's doing much better now. I had a hard time believing in this day and age that anyone would be encouraged to marry for money or status, but I guess it's still going on.

NOOOOOO

I would never marry a doctor!! they are so full of themselves! except pediatricians who have to be nice to their patients and so are usually nicer all around. On the other hand, my son is studying medicine - one day he came home and said thats what he wants to do - and is still going strong, so at least one (future) doc. I'll love...:paw:

I came into this profession because it's what I want to do, but the stereotype about doctors being a "catch" still exists! I'm divorced and am constantly hearing from friends "Maybe you'll meet a nice doctor":smackingf

Makes me crazy... How about just meeting a nice man or ... making peace with just being me.

Anyway, yes the idea is still alive.

I would NOT date nor marry a doctor....most of them test my nerves just WORKING with them. I, too, have known of several nurses that met and married doctors...they are divorced now due to being "replaced" by younger nurses! Ugh.

I sure hope any woman, not just nurses, wants to marry a man whom they love, and they are compatible with. It sickens me to think that someone would marry solely because the person is a doctor. I wouldn't replace my sweet husband for the richest doctor in the world. He doesn't earn a lot of money, but he is my soul mate and you can't put a price on that.;)
