  1. Although I love my job in the ER (and I do Corrections nursing PRN), I am making a career move (due to family needs) to a Long Term Care Facility. I was a CNA prior to becoming a nurse but still... any words of advice? Thanks!

Thanks for this initial post! In much the same way, I am leaving the ER (not forever, but for now) due to family demands, and headed to LTC. I was a CNA prior to becoming a nurse so I am familiar with skilled nursing facilities. Yet, I still wonder about the transition... any other advice would be greatly appreciated.
  3. Thanks for all the great posts! I have been approached by Unival about the HEDIS project and would love the extra money. I work full time as an ER nurse. The ad said I had to have 2 days off a week to complete the project. I can guarantee that ... I'm a hard worker, think I can combine my "regular gig" with the HEDIS project and be successful at both?
  4. Thanks bunches for the great idea about the pocket guide! I'm in charge of "festivities" this year, and have a limited budget. Any other ideas, please post em! Thanks!!!:wink2:
  5. Thank you so very much for putting this thread together and all the subsequent posts! I will start in the ER in a week and am so nervous... yet excited too! The info in this thread is priceless. Thanks!
  6. I love your choice of words! Like I said earlier... and so many others have to... you come out of there emotionally and mentally numb. And then, waiting to hear the results. I've been a nervous wreck which is not like me, I'm usually the rock in the storm to everyone else. Anyway, I had to share.. I passed!!! I found out on the state's website last night. What a blessing! I am so thrilled! I keep all those about to test and those waiting for results in my prayers! Good luck and Godspeed!
  7. Well I just got home from taking the NCLEX-PN. I feel like the world's stupidest person. Ok, not the world's but.. that test was tough. I had 160 questions. I feel such a fool, and drained, and nervous... Everyone says "I'm sure you did well", but they're not me. Thanks for letting me vent. Good luck to all... and by the way, study those meds, priorities, and stages of development. I had only one (1) drug calculation question, and none (0) on cultural issues. And whoever said that Saunders didn't help much, I agree. I think if I had to do it again (and I pray I don't) I'd take the online course from ncsbn. Peace!
  8. Thanks MsTeresa97 for posting. I did great in school but am nervous about doing well on the job, too! I was prompted to post because I laughed at what you said about wanting a doctor's office job and now going to the hospital. I sooo want to be in the hospital setting (OR) but will be going into a doctor's office setting so I can have more family time (I'm a divorced mom of two).
  9. Thanks to everyone who's posted, I appreciate all the advice. I take my exam February 26th and I'm using Saunder's 3rd edition for review purposes. Good Luck everybody!
  10. For a long time, I felt drawn towards hospice, but after doing clinicals in the OR that changed. I so want to be an OR Nurse! However, I will put that desire on hold until I finish RN school. I'm going to seek employment in a doctor's office because I need family-friendly hours and time to study at night and on weekends. Not exactly what I had "planned" on doing as I started out (just a few months ago I was dead-set on going straight into a hospital setting) but common sense has prevailed and this plan is better for me and mine.
  11. When I was first looking for nursing career info, I found the site, bookmarked it and visited (lurked) for a few months. I finally registered about mid-way through LPN school but never took the time to post or get in-depth. Hope to change the participation level now.
  12. Thanks for all the tips! I appreciate the time everyone took to type them up!
  13. I came into this profession because it's what I want to do, but the stereotype about doctors being a "catch" still exists! I'm divorced and am constantly hearing from friends "Maybe you'll meet a nice doctor":smackingf Makes me crazy... How about just meeting a nice man or ... making peace with just being me. Anyway, yes the idea is still alive.
