Do you have 30 minutes for lunch?

Published

Hi everybody

Is there any nursing specialty where you can actually sit down and have a 30 min break?

I'm feeling burn out...

Please share your specialty or ideas if you're able to have a 30 min lunch every time you go to work.

Yes, yes I do. Because if I don't take the full 30 minutes, they have to pay me 1 hour's pay (I can't remember if this is a company law or California law).

So they ensure that we get our lunch breaks.

That's a CA law, yay for California!

I get a 30 minute lunch and an actual 10 minute break early in the day! Also, we usually have lunch brought in by some kind of rep about three times per week. Outpatient endoscopy.

Thank you for all your replies! I was wondering if Endo nurses get to have a 30 min lunch. Any Endo RN in here?

Yep, sure do! I do mother/baby and stay busy but I always make sure to take my 30 min lunch plus 2 15 min breaks! And it's not because we are slow or anything, it's just that I schedule my patients in such a way that I'm able to assess, medicate, chart and then take a quick break to take care of myself.

i try to take my whole 30 minutes always. i used to hurry and return to the unit, but after doing that for a very long while, one day i decided to take a little longer (45 min).....and someone reminded me that lunch is 30 MINUTES :specs:

Research. We always get our breaks.

Everyone on our med-surg unit gets their full 30mins plus 3 tens - it's my job to make it so!

If I get called back from my lunch before 20 mins have elapsed, the clock starts over for my lunch. Though typically if I am on lunch for 15 mins, have to take care of something, I go back for the last 15, not 30. If I get pulled 5 mins into my lunch I will take the whole 30 when I go back. I think there have only been a few times where I didnt get my lunch.

Surgical trauma. I get my 30 but I demand it. If I don't get it, I punch NL. Nurses must lunch.

A big pet peeve of mine is when a patient/pharmacist/anyone else needs me for something non-emergent while I'm lunching my coworkers/secretary will lie to them and say, "she's in a patient's room." Makes my blood boil. It's okay for nurses to lunch. Let's spread the message like wild fire.
