Do LPN's graduate from "college"?

Nurses LPN/LVN

My husband made a comment that an LPN should not say she graduated from college. That is reserved for the person that attended a university or private four year college. I disagree since the name of my school was "technical college". On questionnaires they will also ask you to check which box qualifies you. High school graduate, some college, college graduate, or post graduate degree. I always check college graduate since I did graduate from a technical COLLEGE. What are your opinions?

LVNs in my area get their degree from the Community College. Not all of them get a college degree, but they have gone to college to get their education... For those that have the LVN and have gone to college to get that but did not get a degree as well (i.e. AS in LVN) then they would technically check the box that says "some college". If you are in a tech school and have your LPN without a degree...then I would say technically its not college; but that does not mean anything bad.

"some college"

I have an associates and I don't check graduated as I reserve that for 4 year degrees.

Since not all applications differentiate between a trade/technical school and a college, I would provide the graduation information under college. If there is a space for trade/technical school, then, of course, the info should be placed there. There are some LPNs who attend and graduate from community college LPN programs with an associate degree. Their info would be placed under college. It gets difficult when they ask for all schools attended and the applicant has a laundry list of schools. I would only list the schools that granted a degree or the last school attended. If no degree, all the other info is probably not necessary.

Perhaps, you can contact your Board of Education or some other educational authority to find out what the facts are for you. Congrats on graduating!!:yeah:

I must agree, I graduated from Medical Careers Institute which is a accredited college. The credit hours are more then most 2 year programs.

I'm about to graduate from my LPN program. I attend a community college. In a week, I'll be attending my pinning, but LPNs aren't invited to graduate with the school, which is a week later when official commencement happens. A lot of people in my class are upset, as we have worked really hard, yet aren't even going able to wear caps/gowns. We are supposed to dress up and have our own nurse pinning. As we are learning that hospitals aren't hiring LPNs in our area (LPNs are being phased out here currently), it's almost seeming like a little transition into the realities of LPN treatment. It really infuriates me.
