Do I have a right to be upset?

Yes, it's that time again.

Holiday schedules. A time that every manager dreads.

Rec'd my holiday schedule today. My contract explicitly states that I am required to work one spring/summer holiday and one fall/winter holiday. I worked New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Easter, and today (Thanksgiving). I also worked Mother's and Father's Day. Last year I worked Dec. 24 & 25, New Years Eve and Day.

I find that I am scheduled Dec. 22, 23, 24, 25, 26. Then, 28, 30, 31 and Jan. 1. Dec. 22 & 23, scheduled 7a-7p. Dec. 24 & 25 scheduled 11a-11p. Dec. 26 scheduled 7a-3p.

Oh, but it gets better! Dec. 28 scheduled 11p-7a. Dec. 30 & 31 scheduled 7a-7p. Jan. 1 7a-3p. I need an ativan just thinking about going back between nights, days, and evenings.

Can you wrap your head around this schedule?? Granted, I will make alot in overtime but when am I to celebrate the holidays with my family? I'm weekend option so working so much during the week without notice is a complete surprise. Why am I working God-only-knows-how-many-hours while most of my fellow CNA's have requested off when you cannot request any time off Dec. 15 - Jan. 1?

Am I being a baby about this or would you be upset too?

Bethy, great job! Sounds like you handled yourself very well, and you should be proud of yourself!

It's a shame though, since you already seemed to have met your holiday obligations, you shouldn't have to work on either Christmas or New Year's period. But you won a great victory, and maybe next time, the scheduling will be more fair right from the get-go.;)

Good for you! Anytime a person is assertive and wins a victory, it makes it one bit better for the rest of the bunch who are getting treated unfairly.

Well I think it is better, but still alittle rough. Glad you backed her in a corner and taped her mouth shut. Good for you. At least you Got the Lords birthday off so you can see your family at a good time.

Good job!

yeah, u r being used, taken advantage of.i would confront the scheduler and bringf it to their attention.if not resolved, jus play their game and call off.this is the reason y i work agency!!! i must b in control of my holidays.

You have a right to raise hell and put a board under it and the contract to back it up. You have already not only worked your family holiday this season, there is no way they can screw with your schedule by having you work until 11:30 PM and then expect you back at work at 7:00 AM the next morning.

You need to have a chat with your supervisor about these two things RIGHT NOW before any of the people you work with make plans they can't cancel based on the fact that you are being treated so unfairly while they are not.

Unless you absolutely love this job, I'd be looking for another one, if I were you, one where you're not expected to work all 3 shifts in a two week period and where your contract regarding holidays is respected. The first wrecks your body and the second is illegal and even gives you the right to sue the bastards if they fire you for complaining.

Raise hell. It's your right.

You are still working 4 days you shouldn't be...3 of them being holidays! You should only be working 22-23 and 29-30. ANYthing more than that should be YOUR choice...if you want to pick up some EXTRA shifts, the holidays are a good time to do that, for the 1 1/2 pay...but to MAKE you do it is still wrong.

you cant work 11-7a than be scheduled to come in 7a-3 there asking you to do double thats crazy. All of those 12 hours in a row, what are they crazy. No you arent' being a baby that is one crazy schedule. I would most definetly be complaining.

where i am working now- they force the nurses to work 16 hour shifts anmd turn around to come back toi their next sheduled shift in 8 hours. they do this at the last min even knowing the spot hasnt been filled and do little to find anyone. i think they are nuts to do it but thier contract says they can be forced for medical emergencies ( ie short staffing) though many have been grieving it and i hope they win cause this short staffing isnt like someone called in its shifts the scheduler never got anyone in the first p[lace.

This is totally crazy, I would never work in place like that. Instead of hiring more people and keeping them happy so they would stay, they abuse and mistreat whoever left. Short staffing is NOT an emergency, this is mismanagement. Emergency is when airplane crushed and all hospitals around are full of wounded people in need of urgent medical care.

i agree - that is whay i work agency and will not even attemot to apply like some try toget me to apply there. no thanks!! their unioon sucks if this is what they can do to them by contract. the main reason the few stay that do is they cant afford not to - the bennies being a state job is so significant they could never find a comparanble job- not worth it to me! i will stay at a lower pace and wont miss the higher pay etc. i am just glad i work there agency and didnt go there and aply or id probably been stuck too- new ones come in and dont stay long seeing whats up and not being used to the higher pay and not yet into the bennies they just go but the ones who have been there a while feel stuck.
