What do you think of going to work with parabens on you?
Do you generally avoid parabens when you get ready to go to work in the morning, or do you apply them liberally? Do you think parabens factor into creating a "safe" environment? Some people are strongly against parabens. Where do you fall on the matter of bringing in parabens to work or spraying parabens around at work.
"The sea was angry that day, my friends! Suddenly, the great beast appeared before me...As if sensing my presence, he let out a great bellow. I said 'Easy, big fellow!" And as I watched him struggling, I realized something was obstructing his breathing...I knew something was there, so I reached in, felt around, and pulled out the obstruction! It was...you guessed it. A paraben!"
This is actually a serious topic. It's a sad indictment that not many of you have heard of parabens and it's indicative of what's wrong with society today, and probably a strong indicator of a lot of disease processes that occur without many people giving them much thought. Methyl Paraben and Propyl Paraben are known xenoestrogens that mimic estrogen that could make many conditions worse, particularly endometriosis. The Parabens seem to be associated with cramping in some patients. I have endometriosis and so I have to avoid parabens. I only buy products that do not contain them. Many manufactured products are full of chemicals that seep into your skin and cross the lipid membranes into your cells. Many of you who have studied pharmacology know that topical preparations are usually much more potent that oral medications because of the effect of first pass metabolism in the liver. Topical agents do not get broken down by the liver and therefore anything we put on our skin is directly absorbed into the blood stream. Xenoestrogens are dangerous, carcinogenic and harmful to women. There are many papers and books touching on the subject but I strongly recommend reading the book: Hormone Deception: How Everyday Foods and Products Are Disrupting Your Hormones by D. There...that's my preach for the day :)
I have impossibly long curly hair. Just put a heaping helping of healthy parabens in it to keep the curl from going all frizzy it it this morning. Where would I be without parabens? In FRIZZ CITY my friends.
Word. My frizz has a life all its own. I'm a devoted argan oil user. And, some brands are paraben free.
Ps, well said Rocknurse. Thanks for the education.

I looked at Lindsey Berkson's Linkedin profile and it seems that she has a degree in Nutrition and has a chiropractic license? She is also the author of several books and currently works as a "Functional Consultant".

Who has told you that you have to avoid parabens? I did a PubMed search with the terms "endometriosis" and "parabens" (including specifically methyl- and propylparaben) and I didn't get a single hit. Could you please provide a link to the research that shows that topical use of products containing parabens exacerbates endometriosis? I'm genuinely curious about whether there is a proven link.
ELAINE: What about parabens? What kind of abnormal animal is that? And those kids who had their own parabens..
JERRY: I know, I hated those kids. In fact, I hate anyone that ever had a paraben when they were growing up.
MANYA: ..I had a paraben.
JERRY: ..Well, I didn't really mean a paraben, per se.
MANYA: When I was a little girl in Poland, we all had parabens. My sister had paraben, my cousin had paraben, ..So, what's wrong with that?
JERRY: Nothing. Nothing at all. I was just merely expressting..
HELEN: Should we have coffee? Who's having coffee?
MANYA: He was a beautiful paraben! And I loved him.
JERRY: Well, I'm sure you did. Who wouldn't love a paraben? Who wouldn't love a person that had a paraben?
MANYA: You! You said so!
JERRY: No, see, we didn't have parabens. I'm sure at the time in Poland, they were very common. They were probably like compact cars..
MANYA: That's it! I've had enough!
