As I've said to a previous poster....

I feel valued by MOST of my PATIENTS

I feel valued by SOME of my COWORKERS

I feel valued by NONE of my ADMINISTRATION

:o

no, no, no!!!

what other profession comes to work, and they're already an hour or two behind (depending on the shift). You bust you butt to get everything done, while trying to give "quality" care to your patients... & you're lucky if you have a few minutes to eat lunch, breaks... what are those!(esp if your NOT a smoker)

Administration cuts your staffing according to their "nursing grid", that's a load of sh**, then 2h later you get slammed w/ admissions & you could use full staffing.. too bad for us nurses.

We are under-staffed, hard-working nurses that don't make enough money for the hassles & headaches we put up w/ on a daily basis... no wonder there's such a nursing shortage & I'm looking at returning to school for anything but nursing possibly this spring!!!:angryfire

I have worked for this MD since 1989. I love the job, love the pts. However I do not feel valued by my employer. I have had no positive feedback this year at all, even in my evaluation. It may be time to leave this job....

My bosses tell me they value me as an employee, but some how it just seems like lip service.

I know that what I do is important and that I am doing a good job, but the way things have been in management lately it all seems pointless.

NO. I feel valued by my Pts as usually as , in spite of having a manicy temperament I turn it aroung with the Pts. As far as the Hospital The only value they have for RNs is a Nsg license & a pulse w/ the exception of those who suck up to management like a Hoover. No.I don't feel valued @ all; @ a previous Hospital there was an RN w/ a long commute who they convinced that they couldn't go on unless she agrred to work a double. She said she would. During the drive home she fell asleep @ the wheel, crossed into other lane, she died as did 3 occupents in the other car. They try & get Rns to do this @ my current Hospital; some Nurses do it. I won't die for their system. I feel no value @ all.

I would just add

I fee valued by my unit managers OCCASIONALLY

I don't feel valued in my current postion. I have had jobs where I have felt valued though. Unfortunately, I didn't realize how valued I was until I left. :stone

For the most part, I would say I am valued. My administrator and DON are fair and listen to any/all gripes, thoughts, etc. by this "unofficial problem child" (as I called myself in RN school). :chuckle I have worked many places, and this is one of the few places where I feel appreciated.

Of course, there are one or two co-workers who have taken advantage of the higher up's fairness, but d/t the nursing shortage...well not that many nurses want to work LTC. :o

Simply put....no.

Within the facility and by colleagues and facility Mgr. yes.

But by the facillity upper mgt. and all the admins, absolutely not.

We are replaceable pawns. "Nurse" is just another word to them, they have no clue what is at the core of a nurse's heart.

To them, the nurse is simply an "employee" who is to do things "their" way or no way. True nursing concerns are never addressed, nor is input from the nursing staff ever solicited.

Not to mention wages/raises.

My first job out of nursing school was at a Urology ofc. I loved it there and stayed for over 8 yrs. Over that time I learned every clinical/nursing aspect in the ofc. I was made floor manager in my last year there. I was in charge of 5-6 MAs, I did all of the nurse visits (and by the way this was a very large practice, very busy) I did all of the ordering of meds and clinical supplies. I negotiated pricing on all meds and supplies to the point the practice saved thousands of dollars. I was osha officer. I did triage when needed (even though I hated it - I need pt contact) I helped meet with builders for their new ofc about to be built with the set up of our clinical areas. I filled in for our MAs when we were short. It goes on and on. I thought I was valued my the MDs and administrator. I knew I was by my patients and other staff members. But when it came down to money.......I quickly found out that I was just another nurse. I asked for more money and they said sinse you are new at managing we will watch you do it for a year and then we will give you what you want. Well I knew I was already doing a good job because the admin. told me the MDs value you so much, blah blah blah But they didnt budge and I felt like I was kicked in the gut. I decided it was time for a change and left. Sinse then I hear that they have had to give all of my numerous jobs out to multiple people as no one could do it all. I was the nurse that did urodynamics (cystometrics) and TUMTs (microwave of the prostate) They now had to train the MAs to do the urodynamics ( they can only do the procedure-but have no idea whats going on during it) anyways the MAs want $10/uro to do them. So in the end they have had to pay much more than they would have to keep me happy and the ofc running well. I look at it as their loss and my gain. I miss my patients but am excited to be starting a new job soon at a rehab/ltc facility.
