Do you ever feel ready to take NCLEX?

Published

I have been studying since I received my ATT at the end of May. I test on 6/21 and still have only briefly hit the pharm stuff. I am studying on my own without the assistance of a Kaplan or hurst course and now I second guess that decision( but the money really wasn't available. I practically miss every SATA question that any of my books and APPs have given me. I am scared and wonder if I should postpone my test? Any thoughts?

I am in the same boat as you. I'm actually taking my test in 3 hours, too late to postpone mine :( I don't feel ready at all for pharm. But I know some people who didn't study at all and passed. It shouldn't be bad. I'm just going to take the test slow and understand each question. And from there you should be able to make an educated guess. Good luck! Don't worry about SATA. Once you start getting those on the test, youre doing good! And if your not sure of your answer, just tell yourself it's a pilot question. Because you get 15 of those :) So in reality you probably will only be getting 5-10 real SATA. Not bad! just do your best and know you gave it your all!

at first i was ready but now that i test in 48 hours i'm just extremely nervous. i'm so nervous about all the med surg stuff. there's no way possible for us to know every disease process and symptom. I keep trying to study them along with some pharm but the more i study it the more stupid i feel :/ i guess everyone gets prenclex jitters. i know people who didn't study too much either and they passed with minimum questions. i think if you over study like me then that's where the confusion starts to set in. at this point i don't know what to do anymore, ive been studying with ATI and Exam Cram/Prep for 6 weeks!

I took the NCLEX 6/12 and am hopeful that I passed, having gotten the 'good pop-up' and my state doesn't do quick results.

I did not do a review. In retrospect, I don't think it would have helped.

The SATA questions suck.

After you take the test, you will not feel good about it!

I haven't talked to anyone who did.

I think it is important to get in there and TAKE it as soon as you can after graduation!

In the meantime, just keep plugging away at LOTS of questions. At least it makes you feel like you're preparing, although the test is horrible and hard to 'prepare' for.

Good luck and just take time during the test to close your eyes and take deep breaths...

hi gina never postpone its best to keep with your original date. postponing can cause greater anxiety and it will be hard to be at peace. you only need to be 50% above the passing line

Thanks for all of your input. I guess I just needed to put it out there. I don't really want to postpone, but I am so worried about getting alot of pharm and SATA questions. jkwon please let us know how you did!

I took the NCLEX on the 14th. You will get a lot of SATA questions, and you should be glad when you get them! Harder questions mean that you are trending above the competency line, so don't sweat them, as you only need to get about half of them right.

If you want my honest opinion, the difficulty of the exam is overhyped because it's a cash cow for companies like Saunders and Kaplan. It's almost predatory, in my eyes. I did two Kaplan question trainers the day before I took the test and passed with 75 questions in 45 minutes. No amount of studying will prepare you for the test. Just be confident and know the basics. The people who fail are the ones who expect to fail.

Hi ginar1274, I take mine on the 21st as well, and feel EXACTLY the same. Pharm and SATA are stressing me out big-time. I did the Saunders Review book on my own over a period of 6 weeks, plus questions on PrepU software, and now Mosby's Comprehensive. I just did the Cumulative exam in Mosbys and scored 170/265 (64%) .. No idea if this is good or horrible, but I am trying not to let anxiety get the best of me. I plan to review lots of the basics tomorrow, lab values, fundamentals stuff and drug classes. Wednesday I will not study, and Thursday at 2pm test time. Good luck :)

Mine is also at 2pm on Thursday. And I feel like the fish in your picture!

Am i understanding correctly, you mean 50% above passing line for nclex?

hey i'm on the same boat as you guys, i take it in less than 48 hours! Lets all just stay positive. We all went to nursing school whether it be for PN or RN and we've all come very far. We can do this! remember, you get alot of questions that are not even scored so lets just say that those will be all the things youve never heard of and a good portion of SATA questions. On mulitple choice, i was told if one of the choices includes something i've never heard of then dont pick it as an answer unless i'm 100% positive that all the other answers are incorrect. If there's an answer that might be possibly right and then there's a choice of something i've never heard of then go with the answer the answer i've heard of! just some advise i was given.

Relax. Every NCLEX test is different for each person. I barely had 5-10 SATA, whereas some of my classmates had 20-35 of them! I passed with 75 questions. You can get other higher level questions that require analytical thinking requiring you to bring in many different aspects of knowledge from your nursing school classes. Take each question one at a time, don't stress out if it feels like you don't know the answer...just don't rush it. If it does not shut off at 75, don't freak...as long as it is giving you questions...you are still are taking the test. Don't let yourself be frazzled and let this test screw with your head (It can do that really easy!).

Good luck and let us know.
