Do you dream about work?

Published

Let me start out by saying that I love my job and I love what I do but sometimes it creeps into my dreams.

Last night in my dream I was running from room to room looking for a 10ml syringe and nothing was stocked. I kept opening drawers to find them empty and all the storage carts were just empty boxes as well. It was so frustrated but not that far from the truth at times.

Just wondering but any others might dream about regarding work. Is it good, bad, or more of a nightmare?

After a stretch of particularly busy nights, I dreamt my pt had Zosyn ordered q8hr and I forgot to administer it all shift long.

Don't worry, it's not at all unusual to dream about working. When I sold jewelry at Christmas (way back when) I would sell jewelry all night in my sleep!

Yes. I dream that it's the end of my shift and I haven't seen my patients all night or given them their meds. This dream usually pops up when I'm stressed or worried about something. Before I was a nurse, it was the classic dream of having a final the next day and realizing that I hadn't been to class all semester or read any of the assignments.

Specializes in pediatric neurology and neurosurgery.

I occasionally dream about work; my dreams have always been about certain critical patients that I'm taking care of at that time. Usually I just dream of doing my normal nursing care, but several times I have had good dreams wherein the patients have done something miraculous, like smiled, walked, etc. I like those dreams!

PS.....the weirdest thing is when I dream our chief of anesthesiology.

He is not a people person, can be very blunt with his co-workers and his patients. Yet twice I have dreamed about him and he is so nice...he told me I could go home early and he would take care of my patients!

Another time I dreamed I had to calculate a medication dosage and couldn't do the math, it was a basic easy math equation. I asked him to help and he was so nice and understanding, said he sometimes had problems with division also. The next day I told him about that dream, he laughed and said, 'You know if it really happened I would be very annoyed with you."

I only dream about hitting the lottery and going to all of my favorite places, checking them off as I visit. For some strange reason, I can't find my job on that list. But hang tight for a few while I thumb through. I'm sure it's there....only made it to page 65 so far.:D

So I dreamed about work last night, that a fellow nurse I've had issues with had been promoted to assistant nurse manager. She kept trying to clean out my locker even though I still worked there:p

I dream about work fairly often. Most commonly, I have assigned patients that no one told me about or I'm working the whole floor alone.

Hilarious lol!!!

Usually I dream about coworkers more than "work". I am good friends with several of them so my dreams are usually good. However when I dream of my manager it's always that she is giving me someone else's job to do on top of my own (sadly this is becoming more of a reality than a dream).

Sistrmoon I may have had a few of those too. ;)

Yes. Oddly enough though, it's usually romantic dreams about coworkers rather than stress dreams. I try not to psychoanalyze that too deeply:)
