Do the CNAs or RNs do personal care

Published

And bathe patients.

I always thought it was the RNs but someone else told me it was the CNAs who primarily did that?

I wipe big butts and I cannot lie.

you do , i do, we all do , doo doo.

I know that sounds childish, but are we to believe that was a real question?

Seriously, someone has to do it. No one is above it. Hopefully not below it

Everyone is suppose to...

Suppose to...

But... I know some nurses in LTC that feel that's beneath them and will make CNAs do it.

Looking at your username.... I sure you you have researched nursing a lot :) Read around this forum...

You never quit wiping rear and cleaning up after people. Just the way it is. I used to be a CNA in a nursing home and the nurses wouldn't lift a finger with the"gross things" and liked to sit at their station and shove doughnuts in their mouths. This really bothered me. I never forgot it. Now, as a nurse, I do whatever I can and APPRECIATE my CNAs. If I have to wipe, I gladly will!

I currently work as a PCA, and will be starting my BSN in September. I've seen this as well. And you express the same mentality I plan on having as an RN.

I am yet to meet a family member who will clean up a dirty bottom.

My 88 year old grandmother is in a nursing home. If she is soiled and everyone is busy I take care of her needs. Most of the time they don't even know I've done it. I would feel like an idiot looking for a nurse or aid to clean her up.

Love the dedication!

I have even seen doctors wipe butts; an MD pitched in to help today, as a matter of fact. If poop bothers you, you might not like nursing.

I actually LIKE to give baths in my ICU; it gives me a chance to really assess the patient's skin for breakdown, peri rashes, etc. I enjoy making my patient feel and smell good.

Wow. This is a made up question, right?

Yes, I wipe butts as an icu RN. If you're in the room, are you really going to walk out, sit your butt down and tell the cna to go do it? Anyway, in icu we usually do not have techs or cnas and have to do it all ourselves anyway. That's why we make the big bucks right?!?

Hey I just thaught of a slogan for nursing: Enjoy an exciting career in nursing. You can make big bucks for wiping big butts! Just kidding of course
