Direct Entry MSN's 2010

Published

Just curious if anyone who has applied to the Direct Entry MSN programs at UMASS Worcester, MGH, or Northeastern for Fall 2010 has been contacted about interviews or received word either way yet? I know the deadlines aren't until this week but just wondering if anyone sent their applications in early has heard anything. Thanks!

Juliewoo- Have you found that most MGH students are receiving strong clinical placements? It sounds like you've been primarily at MGH - is there a lot of variation in the quality of sites, or is that something that may not apply to the first year RN curriculum? I've heard from some current NPs that programs are having trouble placing students - slots are hard to come by - so I was wondering what your experience has been like?

Thanks!

I haven't had any experience with the NP clinical because I'm not at that part yet, but my academic advisor has already mentioned to me that clinical spots are limited due to a shortage of preceptors. In terms of clinicals you do in the first year portion, everyone does their Med/Surg rotations at MGH so there's very little variation there. Psych clinicals seem to vary widely - I was at McLean and loved it, others were not so happy with their placements. It really depends on what you make of it I think.

Juliewoo - it sounds from previous posts as though you are pretty happy with your experience thus far at MGH, although very busy! Has the program met your expectations thus far?

Yes, definitely. Won't say I've loved every little thing, but that's to be expected. Even though I feel like I'm busy all the time, the semesters go by REALLY fast. Hard to believe I'm 3 weeks away from finishing my first year!

Are there any current northeastern students out there? I am trying to decide between a couple of schools and would love to hear any opinions about this program.

Specializes in CNA.
Anyone else receive anything from Simmons? How do people feel about the Simmons program?

Got my acceptance letter in the mail this past Friday. I would love to go to Simmons because the campus is awesome and the faculty/professors all seem really great. My only drawback is that it is so expensive. therefore, I'll be going to Umass med instead.

I was in a similar position deciding between mgh, regis, and simmons. I'll be at UMass Med next year as well!

I was just accepted into Northeastern's program and will be attending in the fall! Does anyone know what the daily schedule looks like? I would love more information!! Thanks :)

Congratulations Jamie!!! I am also attending Northeastern in the fall, but don't have any information on what the daily schedule will look like. I know we're not supposed to register for classes until July so it may be awhile before we know our schedule :( If you or anyone else attending NU receives any more information, please share! Congrats again...I look forward to meeting you in the fall! :)

Thanks PsychRN! I'm really excited, hope you are too!! I heard that we are supposed to be getting a "Welcome Packet" sometime soon, hopefully that'll have some more info in it! Do you have any idea of where you're going to live yet?

I am very, very excited!! I worked really hard to get accepted into a program and Northeastern was my top choice so it feels really good to be where I wanted to be after a lot of work. I actually did already find an apartment. Not to scare you, but the apartment search was no fun :( As I'm sure you know, apartments in Boston are very expensive and you don't get a lot for what you're paying (atleast in my opinion). I'm not sure where you're from, but I currently live in CT and am not bringing a car to the city. So, I needed to find a place that was close to school either by walking, biking or public transportation. I found an apartment on Beacon Street in the Fenway area of Boston. It's a 20 minute walk to school, but I'm hoping to mostly bike or, in the winter, use the T. I met with 3 pretty crummy realtors before finding one that actually showed me something decent. If you're interested, I'd be happy to pass along his information. Let me know!

I've already started looking for places and contacted a few realtors, and am heading down to Boston probably Wednesday (I currently live in Vermont) to check out a bunch of studios in the Fenway and Brookline areas. You are right, everything is SO expensive! It would be wonderful to get lucky and find a nice place on my first trip down, but I'm not expecting much. Just out of curiosity, what realtor did you go through? I need all the help I can get!

Also, do you know if there is any sort of forum/facbook group or anything for people coming into our class? I would love to get in touch with as many people possible before we start! Thanks for your help:)
