Did you use Kaplan??

Published

Hi everyone! I have a few questions for anyone who has used Kaplan for the NCLEX-RN. I just finished the course and will be taking the exam next week. Do you think it is better to focus on the material in the course book, Q-bank, or the 7 question trainers? What do you think was most helpful for you?

Overall, how well did Kaplan prepare you for the nclex? Are the practice questions comparable to real nclex questions?

Also (if you don't mind saying) did you pass or fail using Kaplan?

Thank you!

I just passed NCLEX this past Monday with 75 questions. I bought the Kaplan book for $35 and didn't take the class so I can't help you there. About 1/2 of my exam was content and the rest meds, drug calcs and some priority. I don't think a Kaplan course would have helped me either way after reading the book and passing on my own with 75 questions.

I passed using Kaplan's study book; however, this was for the NCLEX-PN. Their techniques that they offered for answering test questions were absolutely wondrous, and they have a money-back guarantee in the event that you fail NCLEX.

HOLY CRAP EVERYONE! I PASSED!!!!!!!!!!! This was completely unexpected... I, like everyone on here, felt horrible after the test. What a relief!!!

I tell you guys what, I did Kaplan and had Q-bank... and both were very beneficial. Q-bank was verrrrrry similar to the Kaplan questions which made things a little easier while taking the test. I did very poorly on the last two question trainers, getting 52% and 56%. After that, I went to B&N and studied my butt off with a Mosby book, a Davis book, a 3000 bullets book, a nursing mnemonics one, and some other misc. ones I thought would help. I didn't do too hot with the book test questions since they weren't as similar to Kaplan/NCLEX. As you can see, I was definitely nervous taking the NCLEX with such poor scores.

This comes to show everyone that no matter how much you study, you will never feel great for it. And with me especially, I didn't do too hot with the tests and I still passed.

Thanks everyone for your support! I hope to keep in touch with everyone on this board, it's been awesome!

Congrats to all of u who took the Kaplan review and passed. I tooK the review 2nd and 3rd week of june and I am schedule to take the Nclex exam the week of the 22nd of July. I have read each and every one of your posting and honestly, I am very nervous about this exam. I have been doing the online review of content videos, the Qbank and I have done just test 1 of the trainer, I got 57% on that and I have thus postpone taking the other tests until I finish the review of content online. When doing the Qbank, I answer 50 new questions every time and I have being scoring in the 50s and I have got two 60s in my recent questions. I still have 3 weeks to go Please everyone, I need help what should I do to improve on my scores. I really want to make it the 1st try. I am only studing Kaplan, but i am studing the online review of content instead of the blue book since it's just the same content in the book. Please guys i need your support and advice, because I might have a nervous breakdown. Helppppppp!

For me, I thought it helped to read the entire book first, THEN do the review of content on my trouble sections. I figured out my trouble sections after doing test 1-5 and watching how my scores for each category changed over time. After I did the videos for my trouble sections, I did test 6. If I still had problems, I went over them AGAIN before taking test 7. Test 7 should be done about 3-4 days BEFORE your NCLEX examination so you can judge if you are ready or not. You should have at least 50% in every category and hopefully over 57-59% overall score. I didn't do too hot on my test 7 (56%), rescheduled for one week later while doing a bunch of Q-bank tests and review of content reviews again... and well I passed the first time!

Thanks Jason, you give me hope, I have decided to read the book as well after review of content and if i have any problem area, I will go over it again. Congratulation to u. I will take my exam 7/25.

Janina08- what is included in the lab and the kit?? I'm guessing the lab is the class, but what do you mean by kit? everything except for Q Bank? Also, are you taking the NCLEX on Aug 16th or your kaplan class starts then? For now I would focus on the course book and the online videos/lectures. Then after the class do the practice questions.

luv2shopp85- QBank has about 1500 questions, but you can reuse old quesions if you want (you choose: unused, incorrect, unused and incorrect, or all questions). I would suggest reading the course book now and watch the online videos/lectures and then after the class do the Question Trainers and QBank. After the class is over how long do you have until your test date? (P.S. Suzanne's plan didn't work for me either I switched over to kaplan and loved it!)

jill, LAB & KIT, means you can only use the kaplan center's materials and facilities, including the video classes, online Qbank access (only available in the center) except that you are not enrolled in the LIVE class where there are instructors and classroom discussions. it's different from the full course since the full course has live classes. the KIT on the other hand, includes the course book, the basics book, the workshop book and the other materials included in the package.

August 16, by the way, is my testing day. pls pray for me! =)

i'm from canada and hope to write the nclex in december, starting to study immediately, any suggestions from those that have written the exam (in general) or specifics would be helpful as well! thanks

I am not taking my Nclex yet, but I love Kaplan. I just did QT 6 and got a 69% on it. Qt 5 I made a 66% and on Qt 4 I made a 64%. Each time I took one of those tests I would focus on my weak area and do question trainer for those areas specific and I can see how I am improving and of course I would watch the videos on those areas as well.

I used Kaplan and I would highly recommend it!!!! I got a 71% on question trainer 6, and a 64% on question trainer 7....(i think i did worse because I was half asleep).....whatever the case I was very pleased with both scores!

I took the NCLEX July 7th and found out I passed on July 9th....I had 75 questions, 10 or more SATA, 10 or more Meds, 1 drag and drop, lots of infection priority, delegation...some peds and psych, no maternity or math....Good luck to All!!!

REmember you can do, so go in positive!!!
