Did you use Kaplan??

Published

Hi everyone! I have a few questions for anyone who has used Kaplan for the NCLEX-RN. I just finished the course and will be taking the exam next week. Do you think it is better to focus on the material in the course book, Q-bank, or the 7 question trainers? What do you think was most helpful for you?

Overall, how well did Kaplan prepare you for the nclex? Are the practice questions comparable to real nclex questions?

Also (if you don't mind saying) did you pass or fail using Kaplan?

Thank you!

i have the question trainer, where can i avail of the qbank?:uhoh21:

You have to purchase the qbank. I think you can upgrade if you did not purchase it.

Everyone gets the question trainers, but you have to pay extra to access the qbank.

ornursetobe , i haven't started using the qbank yet. i think i might wait until after taking the kaplan course. right now i am doing the questions in the saunders book and following suzanne's quide. i'm making sure i do at least 100 questions a day to practice.

Congrats!! Jill, you were one of those I was following with your posts, I am so happy to hear you passed! I am even more happy you say that the Kaplan questions are just like the NCLEX ones. I take mine tomorrow (Tuesday) and Kaplan is pretty much the only thing I studied! Previous posts show I wasn't doing so hot on the questions... I am getting nervous!!

Jason-

Thank you! Don't worry you'll do fine! I was sooo nervous before the test because I only studied for a few weeks and I only used Kaplan (which had a lot of mixed reviews). I even bought the Saunders book for Suzanne's plan, but only did the first few chapters before starting my Kaplan class and then completely switching to Kaplan. Honestly the nclex questions were exactly like Kaplan, some of them really were the same questions. When you go to Q Bank and there are those 3 sample practice tests- do test 3 it's all prioritizing.

When you get to the test tomorrow just take a deep breath, take one question at a time, and you'll do great!

Good luck and let me know how it went!

LOVETOSHOPP85, Use the Qbank if you just want to do a few questions at time. The question trainers are so long. It starts with 75 questions and goes to 265. You can suspend the tests when you needed a break or just want to stop, but I did not like them. I did not even finish 6 and 7.

Even when doing Kaplan. I took the 8 hour class and it was suggested for us to not read any material after class for fear of burnout. So I never read my Kaplan book at all. I did manage to do question trainer 1 and 2 before the class was over. I made borderline on both tests. I read the Kaplan book in its entirety after class was over and Read all of Saunders except the material we covered this semester in class. I did not do any Saunders questions because I did not think they were as difficult as Kaplan, plus I answered Saunders questions all through the final semester of school. Like I said before, I can remember answers to questions, I don't care how old they are and that is not benificial to me. That is why I only did new questions with Qbank. I wanted questions as hard as they could possibly get. Kaplan was it.

i love doing the qbank questions!!! i have been doing saunders as well.

a coworker took the nclex on saturday - she was also doing qbank and saunders. she advised that qbank is more comprable to nclex so that is what i am focusing on now. i test 7/18. good luck!

I am still holding onto the statistic that 89.1% of people who take it (from U.S) pass the test on the first try. I still don't feel completely ready as tomorrow is "judgment day" already.
