Did you use Kaplan??

Published

Hi everyone! I have a few questions for anyone who has used Kaplan for the NCLEX-RN. I just finished the course and will be taking the exam next week. Do you think it is better to focus on the material in the course book, Q-bank, or the 7 question trainers? What do you think was most helpful for you?

Overall, how well did Kaplan prepare you for the nclex? Are the practice questions comparable to real nclex questions?

Also (if you don't mind saying) did you pass or fail using Kaplan?

Thank you!

For everyone who used kaplan (and passed), what were you scoring on the Q bank and questions trainers? I have been getting in the low 60s on the question trainers and my cumulitive for Qbank is 64%. I am taking the nclex on friday and don't know if I'm ready :(

I think you are definitely ready! I would LOVE to have that score. I had my test scheduled for tomorrow, but ended up getting a 56% on question trainer 7 (with 41% in safety/infection and 45% in phys), called Kaplan, and they said I should wait and get some more content review in. I feel soooo much better since I have an extra five days to study.

I've been cramming the past 5 days, 10-12 hours each day, battling a URI, which turned into a sinus infection, and a chronic headache 24/7... I've literally battled through pain and suffering to study half the day away. 5 more days is such a relief.

For you though, 60%+ is a good 95%+ passing! As long as you're at least 50% in each category, I'd say you are good to go. Study today and take tomorrow OFF so you're rested for the test. And again, I wish I had your scores.

Well I used Kaplan and I just took my exam this AM. It shut off at 75 and I feel like I failed for sure. It was really hard and I had numersou select all that apply. I cried all the way home from the testing center.

That said here were my Kaplan scores:

#1 - 59%

#2 - 60%

#3 - 60%

*At this point I re-read all of the blue book and especially focsed on my weak areas while also doing Q-bank questions in that area after I read that section

#4 - 65%

#5 - 67%

#6 - 71%

#7 - 72%

Qbank overall - %65

But honestly, I know that everyone says this, but I really feel I failed at 75 questions.

About 10 of my classmates took Kaplan with me, and of the three that I know have taken it, all three passed. Their scores were 75, 77, 265. Now the one who passed with a 77, she never scored higher than a 64% on the test trainers. Not sure about the other two...

I hope that helps everyone somewhat!

kaplan strategy is great, before you enter a battle you should know first your enemy. kaplan will teach you how question is being made in nclex. the blooms taxonomy is well worth of a study, it will guide you in your review that mere recognition and recall of facts is not needed.[/quote}

Bloom's taxonomy - what are you referring to?

So I'm done with the Questions Trainers (I only did 5,6, & 7 d/t limited time)

and I got:

Q Trainer 5: 63%

Q Trainer 6: 62%

Q Trainer 7: 62%

At least I'm consistent haha

Also- my Q Bank Cumulitive is I think a 65%

I'm sooo nervous about the test I feel sick to my stomach :(

Doing great! I got a 56% on test 7... I have a lot to review before next Tuesday... you should be fine!

I'm going to be taking my Kaplan complete review course July 16-28. I'm kind of excited for it, haha.

I just got access to all the online stuff through Kaplan's website but I haven't had a chance to look through it all yet. I had foot surgery last Wednesday and now I'm on crutches for 3 months. I'm going to use this time to study study study. Today is the first day I did questions in the past week and a half. I did 100 questions. I'm trying to read the Kaplan course book too. I'm on page 60.. hopefully I can get done with it before the class starts.

Is it really necessary to read the whole book before the class starts? Every single page?! I could definitely read the material that is covered in each class before teh class but its just going to be tough to read all 400 some pages before July 16 without overcramming my brain.

Apparently Kaplan is very helpful where I live, in PA. Every single student that I graduate with is taking the class. The hospital that they work for PAYS for them to go to the class, which is given at a hospital. And then it guarantees the pass rate. I can't see why they would do this if it didn't prove to be VERY successful. Every hospital around here offers the class to the Graduate Nurses. But unfortunately for me, I am moving out of state and I want to have my license before I move. So i had to pay for the class out of my pocket.

Although... the people who are taking the class have not gotten their books yet, and I don't know if they get online access to all the stuff.

You're off to a good start!! I would definitely read the course book. Try to read as much as you can before the class starts so you don't have to be rushing to read before every class, but if not just have the assigned readings done before each class. Good luck!

Do a lot of people pass with Kaplan? It seems I've only heard of 1 or 2 that have failed with Kaplan.

I believe they have about a 95% passing rate. They also have a guarantee that you will pass, or you will get a refund. This year they are expecting in the 80-90% range of passing since the NCLEX is harder.

I'll let you know in a few days! (taking nclex on friday)

i think the reason why Saunders helps a lot is that. majority of their question is at the level of Analysis and Application level. Unlike other review cd i encountered their question is at knowledge recall which will only bombard you with too many facts, which will only lead you to simply memorizing the fact which is not, nclex is all about

I do have one question about Kaplan's Qbank.

How many questions are you all doing per test? I started with 10 each then went to 25. Then started doing 50.

It seems like the more questions I added, the worse I got. I finally took a test and got a 64%.

I read that someone else was using kaplan and only doing 25 questions at a time then studying her incorrect answers. I started doing it that way and feel more confident. I am getting 70%, 80%, and even a 92%. I hope it is not a false since of security. I also try to only use new questions because I am one of those people who can remember answers to the questions that I got wrong.

I don't feel the pressure that I felt with 50. I also was doing all timed tests which added more pressure. I just wanted to say thank you for that suggestion, that really helped.

Hopefully, it will make the difference tomorrow.
