Did Hurst, NCLEX on 06/25...advice please!

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello everyone! I am taking my NCLEX in about a week and a half and just want to make sure that I'm on the right track...

I did the Hurst Review and have been studying for approximately 4-6 hours a day. I get good scores on their practice tests, so far 82/125 and 84/125. I feel like I have a pretty decent understanding of the content barring a few particular areas, but my knowledge of pharmacology is lacking. I got a 94% chance of passing NCLEX on my ATI.

I always feel really good about my studying until I move to another method, like the Saunders comprehensive review...I did one of their practice assessments today and only got a 57%. I was really frustrated by their questions and started to doubt my ability to critically APPLY my knowledge from Hurst.

Where should I go from here? I am about 10 days into my studying. Should I trust the scores I'm getting on the Q-review and continue to focus mostly on the Hurst materials, or should I also incorporate more practice questions from Saunders? Is there anyone who solely did Hurst and passed first try?

I'm so curious about how many of the NCLEX questions are about random conditions and procedures that I've NEVER heard of. If that's the bulk of my questions then I'm surely screwed! Over. Whelmed.

You guys are the best! :)

I only had 4 pharm questions...but i would say focus on Hurst. I reviewed the book twice and took 4 of there practice test. Hurst focuses more on knowing your core content rather than doing a million questions. And i loved that. And apparently that method works. Took the NCLEX once.

Thank you so much mayahp22...I really appreciate it

No problem. Good luck

Please help! I am in the same boat and am wondering if hurst is indeed enough to pass the nclex. I am worrying because it seems to skip a TON of topics... I can't imagine how that would be enough to pass (especially in 75 questions)! There also isn't much on pharm which I am veryyy weak on and don't want to fail knowing everything in the book BUT pharm (and there's no way to memorize all those drugs in the resource documents)... Please let me know if hurst was all you did to pass the nclex, seattlers! I am freaking out! I got a 64% on my comprehensive ati which is I think around a 60-70% chance of passing nclex and got an 88/125 (scores between 85-92) average on q-reviews (hurst q-review was a lot easier than ati...). I am also not an auditory learner (disadvantage??) so I've only watched the hurst videos once but have gone through my core content twice, specialty once. It's also been 3 months since I graduated nursing school and am worried that that is too late (I've already forgotten everything...)! Thanks so much!

You are going to be fine. Just take a breath and keep on studying until your test date. Be confident, that is half the battle. Hurst is a great review package and if you do the 5th day materials you cover all the stuff the other companies cover but in a much more condensed and simple to understand format. Pharm is my weakness to but Hurst gives you the Pharm you need. I didn't pass the last test because I let nerves get the best of me. I freaked out when I got up to the mid 200 questions and just started answering without really thinking the questions through. It didn't dong on me that when you run out of time NCLEX only grades the last 60 questions you do! I won't make that mistake again. Plus I have been out of school for a year. You are going to be just fine. You are going to pass and start your career as a RN soon so relax and study but most of all BELIEVE in YOURSELF. You can do this.

Just wanted to add that before I took my NCLEX, I was scoring about 60% on practice tests. As it turned out, I passed the NCLEX in 75 questions. Therefore, I don't think that the prep tests are that accurate in reporting how well you will do. I think as long as you are trending above 50%, I think you should be fine. Don't let yourself be discouraged by your practice test results--just keep studying!

I totally agree with everything said by the other responders! And I understand your nerves and concerns...but it sounds like you're doing the right things! I have a feeling you'll do great. I used Hurst and I think it's all you need, along with the knowledge retained from nursing school (it's there, I promise). Take deep breaths, eat a healthy diet, get sleep, review your specialty material once more, and go rock that test. Good luck!!

you're gonna be fine. I passed the first time with only hurst and their 6 tests. As long as you know that Hurst book backwards and forwards, you should be great. I personally didn't look at the pharm section because I knew that there was no way I could memorize it. Some of my pharm questions I could answer with common sense.. even if I didn't know the drug. For example, I got this drug that I had never heard of (generic name only btw) but the question stated that it was for diabetes and wanted to know how I knew it wasn't working. Well all I did was ask myself how do I know if ANY diabetic drug wasn't working. The answer that I chose was essentially S/S of cushings.

Sorry guys I have another dilemma and don't know who to turn to :( i'm having MAJOR anxiety for my test right now i can't even study or sleep and i don't know what to do. all of my friends said it was so hard and they were guessing on every single question (still passed) but i feel like i will just freak out/have a panic attack if i felt like i was guessing on all of the questions... did you guys feel the same way and if so how did you overcome that feeling? i'm pretty sure i'd just lose focus and... freak out. thanks again!!!

I personally was only positive on a handful of questions. The majority of the questions I took an educated guess. I think that if it gets to the point where you know all the answers.. you're probably below the level of passing.
