Did Hurst, NCLEX on 06/25...advice please!

Nursing Students NCLEX

Hello everyone! I am taking my NCLEX in about a week and a half and just want to make sure that I'm on the right track...

I did the Hurst Review and have been studying for approximately 4-6 hours a day. I get good scores on their practice tests, so far 82/125 and 84/125. I feel like I have a pretty decent understanding of the content barring a few particular areas, but my knowledge of pharmacology is lacking. I got a 94% chance of passing NCLEX on my ATI.

I always feel really good about my studying until I move to another method, like the Saunders comprehensive review...I did one of their practice assessments today and only got a 57%. I was really frustrated by their questions and started to doubt my ability to critically APPLY my knowledge from Hurst.

Where should I go from here? I am about 10 days into my studying. Should I trust the scores I'm getting on the Q-review and continue to focus mostly on the Hurst materials, or should I also incorporate more practice questions from Saunders? Is there anyone who solely did Hurst and passed first try?

I'm so curious about how many of the NCLEX questions are about random conditions and procedures that I've NEVER heard of. If that's the bulk of my questions then I'm surely screwed! Over. Whelmed.

Hi, I took NCLEX last week and got the "good pop up".

I took the hurst, did as many chapters out of the Saunders review book that I could, and I bought a Kaplan Q bank account. I felt the same way about hurst but it really did help me on the NCLEX.... I got 180 questions and thought for sure I failed...

I think u are definitely on the right track. I did as many as 1600 questions. Just keep doing as many questions as you can and re- watch hurst videos in areas you are weak in. BTW I got 60, 70, 80, and 90's on the hurts test and went back thru all my questions

Thanks guys!! Hurst is $300 for the online and $350 for the live review plus online supplemental materials

It's crazy but I ended up spending $800 total... but it was all worth it in the end because it was be just as spendy to take the test again. ...

I'm getting upper 50s to mid-60s on Saunders assessments...they're so hard....

The percentage is not as important as going thru rationales. Good luck

Thanks for the information.

I am taking the NCLEX RN for the 2nd time on 6/25. The first time I studied on my own and used Kaplan. This time I took the Hurst live review and have really studied the book and gone over and over the video lectures. I have a few more of the Qtest to do but I've been scoring in the mid to high 80's. I also bought the ebook NCLEX Cram 4th edition. It has 4 full length (265 questions) tests. I've been scoring in the high 80s on those. After reading all the input from those who have taken Hurst only and passed I feel more confident that I too will be passing this time. I'm certain I know the Hurst material. I just hope it will come to my mind when I need it for the test. Also I hate, yes HATE the select all that apply questions. They terrify me, truthfully. I can't get those. I end up adding one that shouldn't be or leaving one off that should be. Any advise for doing those? I tried true/false and it is still confusing to me. Thanks in advance and thanks too for your comments about Hurst. I feel more confident now.

Just give your best educated guess! I took nclex last week and got the good pop up... I also hate sata and I got about 25.... hurst really helped me in the test. All the things they said kept coming to mind.

Did you focus more on reviewing content or practicing questions? Did you just use the Hurst?

I did both equally. I did Hurst live and they don't do maternity, peds, or delegation in the live review (you have to watch videos for it on your own time). So when I got home after those three days of review, I did those three videos and then I read through my workbook about 3 times (its 150ish pages). Then I looked at all of the videos from the live review while simultaneously reading my workbook again. I didn't touch any of the questions until I knew my content without a shadow of a doubt. I did two tests per day (125 questions each) and I finished in 3 days. I spent about 2 weeks studying total (about 8 hours per day).

My school provided kaplan for free but I didn't find them helpful. They just have test taking strategies (no content) and I just felt like their strategies didn't always work with the questions.

If you still have access to Kaplan, they have 4 Nclex Sample Tests and the 4th one is called alternative format. That one is a test of 50 questions and they are all SATA. I took my test the other day and it shut off at 75. I would say that a good chunk of it was SATA. My advice to you is to ONLY select the answers that you are positive about. If you select one that you are like "ehhhh, that could be right" I feel like you will talk yourself into an answer instead of going with what you know. :) I hope that helps!

So you think that Hurst is a strong enough review to pass, on it's own?

Thanks for replying NashvilleNurse14. Unfortunately, I no longer have access to Kaplan's tests. You are right about how I react to the SATA questions.... I do talk myself into more answers than I initially select on most of them. I will take your advice and only pick the answers I know without a doubt are correct and see how that works for me. I still have a couple of practice tests from Hurst and I have 2 more from the Cram NCLEX 4th ed book. Like I said, when I start looking over materials and test questions other than Hurst's I get scared what they provided will not be enough. I guess it's just nerves. Thanks again for your reply and good wishes. God bless you and yours.
