Did anyone apply to UCLA's MECN Program for Fall 2009?

Published

Just wondering if anyone else applied to this program. I went to UCLA for undergrad but I pretty much think I have no shot of getting into this grad program.

Does anyone know anything about how many people they admit? What they are looking for?

I mentioned mine and it didn't help. Now that I think of it they wanted to know about your cultural or socioeconomic issues in your life in your personal statement. Oh well, I have already started to research all programs out there. I am going to apply to more programs next year.

I recall them asking that in the essay prompt too if applicable. Since it wasn't applicable to me, I didn't address it.

Kitty I'm sure they need some blonde haired women, with a sharp sense of humour in their class as well! ;)

Aww, thanks buddy. But this is America. It's called humor. No u. ;)

Well I'm in the UK and there IS a U!!! :p

Haha I was actually thinking to myself whilst writing my personal statement, that I hope they don't think I can't spell and I hope they realise I'm spelling correctly according to UK English... Which naturally is the 'proper' English :p

I love it when you say "whilst."

I love it when you say "whilst."

Haha why? Do you spell that differently too? :p

There's no whilst in American English. It's just "while."

When I was a little kid, I guess I must have read some "proper" English, and I couldn't seem to get a handle on all those words like humor that y'all spell funny. My teachers were always correcting my "bad" spelling. Appalling, no?

Hi ladies & gents! So I think the reason I haven't received my letter yet was b/c I have moved since I applied! :(

Haha oh my gosh really? There's no whilst??? I don't think I can cope without using 'whilst' in my vocab :/

Yeah I think it's weird how americans spell mum and colour.. I also think it's weird how you write the date wrong! We write it day/month/year format.. Because we say 10th of March.. So that really confuses me when I'm filling forms in america.. I actually have to stop and think when I see the month and the date the wrong way round e.g when you write 3/23/09... I would automatically think, we don't have 23 months in the year!! Haha

Also they way you say the time.. In the UK we're always saying 'oh it's twenty to four' .. But you tend to just say: 'it's 3.40' haha

So odd.

That would be a good reason... OR you've been accepted ;)

OK Sarah, I'm going to try emailing you.

Stillhoping, I am the first in my family to attend and graduate from college. I also think that I have a some what "interesting" life. That being said, I'm really not sure how they made decisions this year. Last year (from reading info in the state of the school pdf) it seemed that they admitted 68 students but 54 accepted. So there may be some hope for those who are on the waiting list. Good luck to those who are still waiting. It would be nice to see some of you in the Fall.

AH! Really? With the whole socio/economic thing? I thought about putting it in but I was told not to!

Now I wish I did. I'm first gen over here, first to go to college and FINISH. And now, I'm the first EVER to try my hand at grad school AND the medical field. I'm breaking new ground all over the place. And I'm the oldest of 5 girls. LoL. My parents really came over on a boat! I really wished I knew this before!
