Just wondering if anyone else applied to this program. I went to UCLA for undergrad but I pretty much think I have no shot of getting into this grad program.
Does anyone know anything about how many people they admit? What they are looking for?
I agree with you kittykat19. The stats in this forum sound amazing.I guess it was just not meant to be for me. I still cant get over the shock I am experiencing. I've had 2+ years volunteer experience in a hospital, worked in a clinic for 3+ years, 2+ years of research in undergrad, 1+ working in neuroscience research now, honors program, various honor societies that also included community service, ~3.5GPA and a Masters in Biomedical Sciences...and nothing. I've had a few rejections already. UCLA made it 2 just for today. IF I dont get into anything this coming Fall, I'm definitely going to talk to someone from the program to determine what I was lacking and if I can fix it. Another year of waiting is just going to be awful!
I am really hoping that the names on the rejected list, were really meant to be the accepted list and when they mass printed the letters someone made a mistake, lol. I dont feel so bad saying that now since so far I have not heard of any acceptances for the last few days.
. Really though...what are they looking for in an applicant?!
Wow you have a masters in biomedical science? I did my undergrad in Biomedical science and that was tough enough!
Your stats and experience sound perfect.. Gosh hearing everyones amazing profiles makes me really question what it is they are looking for? :/
Well, lucky you if I'm right!
Seriously though, I wish you guys would stop beating yourselves up. You're obviously incredibly bright and will make great nurses. I have to confess, I can only be cool about this because I'm already in at Vanderbilt. But that's the thing guys, if you didn't apply to other schools (and who could blame you nobel-prize winners for thinking you were a lock at UCLA!) then that's what you gotta do. I'm sure you'll get in if it's what you really want. Martini, I hope you're listening.
Hi everyone,
I just wanted to commend everyone on their achievements/accomplishments. Everyone seems like they could offer a great deal to the nursing profession. I found the state of the UCLA Nursing Program for 2009. It may explain what direction the school is going in. Click on "State of the School-Presentation" after you click on the link. I found this information some what useful.

I'm not sure how that presentation explains the direction the school is going in... Maybe because my blackberry insisted on viewing it in a weird linear format :/
Not sure if you are reading it correctly but under the "Student Affairs 2006-2011 Strategic Plans" it mentions future/present goals for the school. Just some information to read.
It says they wanted to increase a pool of socio and economically disadvantaged students into their programs. MECN2009, you don't have to answer if you don't want to, but did you happen to experience any socio or economic disadvantages growing up?

Bio, who knows? Maybe having an M.S. already actually handicapped you. Also, if they are looking to accept a "class" rather than individuals, maybe they already felt they had enough science-oriented applicants and wanted someone more toward liberal arts. I'm only guessing, but I really do think it was something along these lines, rather than you just not being up to par. But of course you should talk to them. Also, you might consider looking at schools that start in January if you don't want to wait another year.
