Did anyone apply to UCLA's MECN Program for Fall 2009?

Published

Just wondering if anyone else applied to this program. I went to UCLA for undergrad but I pretty much think I have no shot of getting into this grad program.

Does anyone know anything about how many people they admit? What they are looking for?

Martini, I know you will make a great nurse. Hang in there! (picture cheesy poster with Kitty hanging from tree)

Luck and love to you as well,

Your Kitty ;)

Kitty what is your profile like?

I'd rather not write too many personal details, but it includes several undergrad schools, 5+ years military service, some volunteer work, and an honors study aboard program. While my overall GPA is not stellar, my last two years are pretty solid. I also got better than average (though not spectacular) GRE scores. Before I entered the military, I was in nursing school but didn't finish, which I (rightly) attributed to lack of emotional maturity in my essay. I really do love what nurses do.

I'm also kind of a genius, but I left it to my recommenders to tell them that ;)

WOW you definetly stand out as a wow applicant, I'm confident you'll be accepted cause you don't have an average applicant background and ucla apparently love diversity!

Haha well I already knew you were a genius from your sense of humour :p

wait, wait! And my Grandma taught me some piano when I was 10. I actually had the tune "I'd like to teach the World to Sing" in my head today (which is about as advanced as I got) and couldn't figure out why. Then I figured it must be all the talk of your special talents Sarah.

Thank you...who knows though, right? There's some amazing folks here that have been rejected.

Haha I had the song 'he's got the whole world in his hands' in my head the other day!

Yep, I'd hate to be on that admissions committee picking applicants, it must be dreadfully hard for them!

All I can say is, if these amazing people have been rejected, then the applicants they accept must be super human beings! :s

Hi guys!

My mom checked her mail (I'm using her address because she has a locked mailbox) and NOTHING yet! I'm totally grabbing onto that theory of the acceptances coming later... so here's hoping! (But DAMN, I definitely do not have stats like some of our fellow posters.)

PS. I live about 20 miles from UCLA.

Lovin, do you live in a smallish town? I want to test my theory.

I agree with you kittykat19. The stats in this forum sound amazing.

I guess it was just not meant to be for me. I still cant get over the shock I am experiencing. I've had 2+ years volunteer experience in a hospital, worked in a clinic for 3+ years, 2+ years of research in undergrad, 1+ working in neuroscience research now, honors program, various honor societies that also included community service, ~3.5GPA and a Masters in Biomedical Sciences...and nothing. I've had a few rejections already. UCLA made it 2 just for today. IF I dont get into anything this coming Fall, I'm definitely going to talk to someone from the program to determine what I was lacking and if I can fix it. Another year of waiting is just going to be awful!

I am really hoping that the names on the rejected list, were really meant to be the accepted list and when they mass printed the letters someone made a mistake, lol. I dont feel so bad saying that now since so far I have not heard of any acceptances for the last few days. :p. Really though...what are they looking for in an applicant?!

I live in West Covina. It's a suburb but not that small.. Lol... it's hard to figure because I feel like a city gal. I'm surrounded by cities!
