Did anyone apply to UCLA's MECN Program for Fall 2009?

Published

Just wondering if anyone else applied to this program. I went to UCLA for undergrad but I pretty much think I have no shot of getting into this grad program.

Does anyone know anything about how many people they admit? What they are looking for?

But we were also told that some went out on thursday too..so maybe the rejection letters went out on thursday and the rest went out on friday?

My small, white envelope was postmarked March 7, 2009.

Got my rejection letter today. I'm less than 5 miles away from UCLA. I was really hoping I lived close enough to get the big envelope today. I am completely shocked right now! I just keep looking at my application and trying to figure out what was wrong with it and what I need to fix if I ever have to apply again. I really hope I dont have to apply again and I get in somewhere this year.

Hi there- I got rejected- really upset about it and didn't see it coming. I have a 3.8 gpa, in a honors program for BA in psych, working on a research study to improve the quality of life in ALS population, have done hospice volunteer work for almost 2 years, 2 yr. experience with direct patient care, plan to go on for a phd, ect.

I knew it was competitive, but I had no idea it was so intense. I feel like I am trying to get into med school or something.

I would love to know the profile of persons whom were accepted.

Sorry to hear that.

Wow you sound like the ideal applicant!! I'm shocked you didn't get in with those stats and experience!

I'd also be interested to hear the profiles of the superwomen/men that get in too!

Again, sorry to hear that.

I suppose if you really want to know, you could arrange an appointment to see the dean to go through your application and where you can improve (in their eyes) to be more competitive.. That's if you want to apply again for next years cohort.

Wow, with those stats I wouldnt have seen it coming either. I'm very sorry to hear that, but I'm sure you'll be accepted somewhere (if you havent already). I'm sure many of us a very much qualified if not overqualified for this program. For those of us who didnt make it in this year, think of it as UCLA's loss and not ours.

Carisamarie were you at least put on the wait list?

I just got the mail and nothing today. Bummer. Sarah, I'm beginning to warm to your theory about the acceptances going out last ;)

Haha well if I were in your shoes I'd think that way because it doesn't make sense that people in California have gotten letters of rejection today and the rest of the californian applicants haven't heard.. Unless the postman took half a day off to go play on the beach?

I can't apply my theory to myself because my rejection letter might still be flying over the Atlantic ocean!

I'm actually in Seattle...although I would think that distance wouldn't be a major factor. I got a letter from Nashville mailed on Friday the following Monday. My theory is that major city to major city is faster, put that together with your on the acceptance last and I'm virtually guaranteed a spot!

Seriously, where's Martini?

Hmm well it shouldn't take too long getting to me because LAX is an international airport that flys direct to heathrow, so It should take around 3-4 days to get to me.

I like your optimism!

Maybe Martin is out celebrating?

Martini is not partying. He is so sad. I don't get how I got rejected. Oh well the competition must be really fierce. I graduated from a UC with a Dual degree. I have volunteer experience at a hospital and worked as a job coach with Mentally and physically disabled individuals. I did a lot of research as an undergrad. It wasn't meant to be. Sorry for not replying right away. I just feel sick. I applied to Long Beach and will know in second week of may. Believe me, I am not holding my breath. I will have apply again and take that GRE so I can apply to those other programs. But what else can I do? Good luck to y'all who are waiting to hear back. I will definitely meet with the dean to find out how to help my app for the future.

Good luck all of you.

Love you especially Sarah, musictonurse, msnapplicant, and my Kitty. You guys made this wait easier. Good luck to you.

Oh my gosh!!!! I'm soooo sad to hear that!!! :(

It's probably easier for me to say this, since I'm still waiting to hear.. But try not to be too sad, you sound more than qualified for this program!

Don't lose hope! If this is your dream, I'm sure you'll succeed in one way or another!
