Did anyone apply to UCLA's MECN Program for Fall 2009?

Published

Just wondering if anyone else applied to this program. I went to UCLA for undergrad but I pretty much think I have no shot of getting into this grad program.

Does anyone know anything about how many people they admit? What they are looking for?

I think it will be postmarked today too.

Did anyone check decision status?

Yup. 'Still says "no decision has been made." I'm pretty sure they're lying.

Haha

Well apparently he decision status doesn't change till a while after you've received paper notification.

I had another dream last night, this time I dreamt I got in! So I'm hoping my dream literally comes true!

I'll probably get mail, latest by next week :/

I'm too much of a coward to try and get my decision told to me over the phone.

Check your mail today! I received my letter from UCLA a few minutes ago. I was rejected, but I wish everyone luck and I hope the rest of you get in.

Thanks for making the waiting more bearable by sharing updates on here. I think I would have driven everyone around me crazy by now if it weren't for being able to log on here and realize that we were all just as nervous.

Thanks levoila. I'm sorry to hear you won't be joining us at UCLA...that is, er, if any of us get in.

Awww sorry to hear that, I hope everything works out for you anyway.

My letter is probably flying over the atlantic right now.. Lucky letter!

Thanks, Sarah and KittyKat. I'm not too disappointed. I applied to 6 programs, so I still have a few more pending that will hopefully have different outcomes.

I want to become a nurse practitioner, so if I don't get into the two programs that I applied to that would lead to that, I think I would rather do a 1yr A-BSN, get some nursing experience and then apply to NP MSN programs.

Luckily I have a interview for CSULA, now I just have to prepare as much as possible.

Good luck, everyone! I wish you all the best!

You sound like you have a really good attitude about it. I think it's a great example for all us: there may be some setbacks, but if we really want this, we'll find a way. Thank you.

I don't understand why you wouldn't be accepted if you would be considered for CSULA because they are both popular programs with the same GPA cut off point.

But I guess I shouldn't drive myself crazy thinkng about what the admissions committee are or aren't looking for :/

Yeah but you'll keep doing it anyway Sarah ;)

The two programs are very different though. The UCLA program leads to a MSN and the training to become a Clinical Nurse Leader. My understanding is that you have to get experience before you can actually put that training to use.

The CSULA program, however, expects you to begin working as a nurse (after passing the NCLEX, at the end of the 5th quarter). Then continues onto the Masters phase while you are working/getting experience as a nurse. At the end of this program, you get an MSN with a specialization as a nurse practitioner (since you would have already accumulated sufficient hours of clinical experience as a RN). CSULA has always been my first choice--I will be devastated if I don't get in there.
