Just wondering if anyone else applied to this program. I went to UCLA for undergrad but I pretty much think I have no shot of getting into this grad program.
Does anyone know anything about how many people they admit? What they are looking for?
Yes, I've already decided I will have some sort of Indian celebration if accepted. At the very least I'm going out for Indian food! haha. ok, now I think I'm going neurotic. haha
Haha if we both get accepted, I'll make sure I do a little indian dancing with you!
It's ok, I think I'm rubbing off on people haha

Yay! I'm glad I have a dance partner because I think my friends and family will be wondering why an acceptance letter would spark an Indian dance.
But seriously, I've been thinking, if I don't get accepted, I don't know what UCLA expects. I feel like I am way more than qualified. I'm starting to get really frustrated that it is so hard to become a nurse when there is such a great need. I don't know what more I could do I guess. I know I, along with all of you, have worked so hard to gain volunteer experience and get really good grades, and to think that that might not be good enough is pretty discouraging.
I understand, it must be hard for the admissions committee, they must feel frustrated that they only have around 55 places and an a lot of qualified applicants.
It's unfortunate that they can't have bigger classes.
So I guess they are looking for applicants that stand out to them from the usual 4.0 applicant with volunteer experience, as I'm sure they had hundreds that met that criteria that applied.
We just have to cross our fingers and hope!

Well, my friend was telling me yesterday that for a lot of the public schools it really is about the GPA because they want to be able to increase their ranking and in turn be able to get more funding. I'm not sure if it's true for this program, but she was saying when it comes down to it, it is based on your grades. And the other experiences just make you stand out.
On a brighter note, after my group interview at USD, the professor told us all that we would all make great nurses and great candidates, and that she really hoped we would all pursue the profession, but that there just weren't enough spaces for all of us. I guess I should be happy that I got selected, but I would be much more happy for UCLAs acceptance. My wallet will be super happy :) ecstatic!

Hmmm I'm sure that's very true for the undergrads, but I had the impression that it was so much more than GPA where graduate school is concerned.
Shelli said that they were looking at the applicant as a whole and what they've done to demonstrate their desire for nursing.
They have a minimum GPA cut off point, which I'm sure most people that apply have achieved, so I guess you need more than that to stand out from an intelligent pool of applicants.
But I could be wrong, god knows what the admissions committee are looking for.
But someone who met with a counseller at UCLA told me that they are looking for a diverse class.
Wow you got into USD? I'd love to go there, but for an international student, it's even more expensive! :/
It will be okay everyone. We will know soon. I think UCLA is looking for a diverse class of individuals as well. I also think it is essential that in your personal statement the admissions committee was able to see your intent and motives to becoming a nurse.
That's true, Shelli said that you should aim to keep bringing it back to nursing within your personal statement to show clear direction as to why you've chosen nursing.
But the more time you have to ponder the more time you have to think and question what it is they're looking for! It's enough to make anyone neurotic! Haha
