Virgo_RN, BSN, RN 3,543 Posts Specializes in Cardiac Telemetry, ED. Jan 17, 2009 There is a difference between being HIV+ and having AIDS. If the person does have AIDS, then their immune system is severely compromised, and they are at risk for infection. A private room would be a more suitable situation for such a person, to minimize their risk of exposure to infection. The danger is not to the roommate, but rather, to the person with AIDS himself.

nghtfltguy, BSN, RN 314 Posts Specializes in Emergency, Trauma, Flight. Jan 17, 2009 yeah it is safe... and i will have to agree w/ reno... the pts roommate is more likely to get the aids pt sick than the other way around....... good question though....but reno hit it spot on!!!
