I would think that would depend upon the HIV+ person's CD4 count.

yes, it is safe for the old man. i am more concerned about the safety of the "aids" patient here. does the person really have aids, or are they simply hiv positive?

My instructor said he is a AIDS patient.

If your pt truly has AIDS, the other pt is more of a danger to him than the other way around.

Standard precautions should take care of cross-contamination risks.

There is a difference between being HIV+ and having AIDS. If the person does have AIDS, then their immune system is severely compromised, and they are at risk for infection. A private room would be a more suitable situation for such a person, to minimize their risk of exposure to infection. The danger is not to the roommate, but rather, to the person with AIDS himself.

I would only be concerned with whether the roommate has any type of communicable disease. HIV+ patient would have compromised immune system even if not progressed to full blown AIDS.

yeah it is safe... and i will have to agree w/ reno...

the pts roommate is more likely to get the aids pt sick than the other way around....... good question though....but reno hit it spot on!!!

i would love to see this aids pt have a private room.

thinking of all those colonized pts and workers, sends chills down my spine.

i would like to see him protected as possible.

but me thinks the facility is considering the bottom line in $$.
