I just got a job offer from a busy dept in a Baylor hospital in Dallas. $27.5/hour for my 4.5 yrs experience. I I feel it is a low pay. What you think? I don't live in Dallas. I need inputs from locals. Thank you

oO My potential future nursing school pays 64K for nurses with 1 year experience. That's the low end salary. Dunno if you would want to make the move to San Antonio though :)

Offered a job in Arlington (Medical Center of Arlington) with 2.5 years experience and was quoted a starting rate of $30.00/hr base. I am presently living in Boston and make a base of $31/hr. The cost of living is so much lower in Texas that I am considering taking the job.

Is that with differentials such as nights/weekends, etc?
With diff it will be $37.50 (will be working weekends). Base is $31.00

That's an unusually good pay rate for a DFW-area hospital. Most are paying in the low to middle twenties per hour. Good for you!
Just talked with HR from Medical Center of Arlington and the base they are starting me at is $29.70/hr. Sorry for the error!!!!!!!!!!! The diffs are correct! Still pretty good in my opinion.
That is still an excellent pay rate for here. They must really need your specialty. BTW, I did some clinicals there when I went to school at UTA (very close to Med Ctr of Arlington).
Without the state income tax, you will probably be making the same take home as you do now. And, as you said, the cost of living is less (except for the higher utility bills here). http://www.paycheckcity.com has a calculator that can help you with finding out the take home pay (per state and city).
So, when are you moving here???

The hospital is flying me down next Wed to meet with HR, the manager, and staff, then I guess we will talk about a start date. Looks like it will be in Sept-Oct. Can anyone recommend an area to live?? Which area should I stay away from??

I love where I live in Saginaw, but the commute to Arlington sucks. What shift will you be working?
Thinking about working evenings 7p-7a
That would be fine then. When I first moved here I worked 8 to 5 in Arlington and that commute sucked!
Do you want a house or apartment or?
