DEVASTATED I FAILED The NCLEX

Hello, I just recently took my NCLEX examination two days ago and found out I failed. I had been studying for three long months utilizing Kaplan, Saunders, and Lippincott-Nursing questions and answers made incredibly easy, and Helen Feur CD's. I sat for the exam and took two hours answering 75 questions and then the computer shut off. I was stunned and excited all at the same time because I had heard if the computer shuts off at 75 you have a better chance at passing then failing. I had quite a few of SATA, and only about 8-9 different medications I had never even heard of. I didn't get any math questions which I had heard were considered easy questions. I had a job lined up to begin August 3 and can no longer start now because I failed. Now I'm stuck continuing to work as a CNA until I pass my boards. I spent all day crying and depressed. I studied my butt off just to fail. What did I do wrong??? If anyone has any positive advice for me on what I should do, I would really appreciate it because I truly feel like such a failure.:crying2:

People who are well-prepared fail. The test is unpredictable. Give yourself a couple of days to feel sad, then make plans for your retake. As long as you don't give up, you will pass.

hi

calitor said is rite. don't worry. give yourself some time for this . you would be okhay after some days and you would be motivated to start studying again. don't worry. it happens. i know its easy to say but hard to accept.

Life goes. time goes up. pray at this time.

Thank you kindly Caliotter3 and Gold2010; your kind words really do make a difference. I took the exam and failed 48 hours ago, but I already scraped up the $119 fee and sent a new application to re-apply to the board of nursing in my area. I'm still very down about it but as you have stated, life goes on and I still have some hope and faith left...

sooon2brn,

i completely understand your frustration on not being successful the 1st go around on the nclex exam. you will get a performance report from your bon in a couple of weeks. take some time to look it over and it will show whether you were above, near or below that testing area. some suggest when you start to study again, that you start all over as if you're testing for the 1st time again. that really didn't work for me, but it may work for you. i concentrated on my weaker areas and used the linda lacharity book to help me with prioritization/delegation questions. you have come so far from when you began nursing school. just try and stay calm and focus. stay positive and stay away from negativity and negative people. it will work for you. stay focused with your study schedule and stick to it. :) hopefully, your next attempt at the nclex will work out for you! :)

best wishes and good luck,

i felt the same way when i failed my nclex 2 mons ago. Give yourself a break, take your mind off it. Once you are ok, get back on track. Caliotter is right, even if you study a book and memorized every disease and medications out there you can still fail the exam, or someone can just study for 2 weeks straight and pass it. As soon as you get the results, check what are your weak points and work on that. Also, if you feel like you having problems tackling questions, maybe do more practice questions (this was my case in the beginning, i just studied mostly, did not do practice questions like how most people did it) Good luck to you. Keep your head up, believe in yourself that you will pass...a positive mindset will lead you to a great start and set an amazing finish.

jadu1106,

i really appreciate your kind reply. i am so embarrassed that this happened to me because i studied everything from trach tubes to chest tubes and everything else you can possibly think of and none of what i studied was on the exam. i read and did practice questions, but i think my issue was trying to learn everything by studying 12-16 hours a day cramming my brain with info. i stressed so much about this exam that my hair started falling out-just to fail it anyway. huge mistake on my behalf! i will follow your advice in staying calm and focusing and most definitely staying far, far away from negative people. congrats to you on your success with battling the nclex and may god continue to bless you my friend

JBreezy and others,

You guys on here are so optimistic and supportive. I am so very glad that I suscribed to this website because it just goes to show there are other people out there in the world that actually care for others and have good hearts. Thank you ALL for instilling more hope in my mind and heart to pass the NCLEX with flying colors second time around! May God Bless everyone. :lvan:

OMG u sound just like me, had you written this before you found out your results i wouldve bet money that you passed

I did feuer CDS kaplan read saunders and nclex exam cram

how were u doing on KAPLANS question trainer 6 and 7 ?

QBANK ?'s are too easy

Same thing happened to me except I had all 265. I had a job lined up for August 9th, and I have the CNA gig to fall back on until I pass. It sucks, but eventually you'll pass, hopefully next time. I had heard that this was a good sight to get study info from NCSBN Learning Extension . NCLEX preparation . Continuing Education for Nurses . Nursing Faculty Education. I purchased it, and the questions they provide are actually NCLEX style. I too read the Kaplan study guide and did roughly 3000 questions from the Saunders book. Honestly, those were pointless. After taking the test I would dare to say that it's structured in a way as to limit all of the strategies and style of questions that you see from all of the study materials. Anyway, check that sight out and good luck. A lot of people don't pass the first time around, and by no means does that mean that you are incompetent and not able to succeed as a good nurse. Chin up!

Natingale,

I was scoring in the mid 50's with trainers 6 & 7 and yes, I must agree that the QBank was a bit easier than the actual trainers because I was scoring in the 60's. I was told that we should be scoring 65% or higher on the QBank and we are gauranteed to pass and have found that not to be quite as true.

Singlesporgears,

Thank you kindly for such a positive message. Also, I appreciate the insight on that website; will have to check it out. I must say after sitting for the exam myself that everything I learned from Saunders, Kaplan, amongst other study materials were not like the ones on the NCLEX. I am agreeing with you on that. I cannot even describe it but it was def structured differently.
