Hello, My name is Sierra and wanted to start this thread for students applying to DSN and students at DSN to ask questions and such. I would like to talk to others applying!
I want to start off by asking: Since DSN does not have an online application process, we are supposed to send in our application materials. We can apply from November 15- January 1st. I know that the sooner the better send sending in applications, but don't know if I should/ could send in my application that Monday, the 11th? What do you guys think?
I'm finishing up my BSN with DSN (graduating on Friday!) so any questions you have I'd be more than willing to answer if I can :)
I was wondering if you know anyone who has graduated from DSN and was able to find a job quickly after graduating? Also, can we work in a different state if we have an nursing license from Colorado? Sorry if this question sounds dumb. Im new to this. Thanks!
Hi :) I do know of a few that have graduated from DSN and immediately got a job after they passed their boards- granted they had a connection of some sort, for example volunteering or working at the hospital in some capacity. You can work in any of the compact states if you get licensed in Colorado; however, if you actually move to a different state that'll change. I'd look up the nurse compact states. If you move to Texas for instance, while it is a compact state you'll have to get a TX license after 90 days as you've changed your permanent residence. If you move to a different state that isn't a compact state, you'll have to get that state's license. I hope that wasn't too confusing!

You have a good chance at getting hired in the facility you do your capstone, so go where you would like to eventuality work if possible.
Hi! I applied in December for the July 2014 start date. Last week I received an email asking if I could move up to the April 2014 for the BSN completion start date. I confirmed that I would like to do that. I was then told that I would be contacted to set up an interview. I am now just waiting for someone to contact me. They said it could be up to 2 weeks. Also, my email asking me about the April start date came in my junk mail folder so make sure to check your junk email folder! I almost missed mine.
For anyone interested I didn't not have a great gpa. I applied with a 2.8 gpa. I have a previous bachelors degree in psychology. I also have worked previously as a CNA, I did an internship with frontier house in Greeley CO ( internship was rehabilitation counseling), and I currently work at interim healthcare as a personal care worker ( I am not using my CNa license, I planned on using it but loved my client that I take care of so I decided to stay with them for the time being). For my admissions essay I wrote about my previous degree and healthcare experience.
I have previously taken the hesi test for another nursing schools application process.
I am assuming I will need to take it again. I have started to review materials to study for the HESI test for DSN. I am using McGraw-Hills nursing school entrance exams 2nd edition ( non pax-RN, TEAS, pSB-RN, and HESI A2 tests are all included) also I used this website http://caring4you.net/Hesi_StudyGuide.pdf. I just brushed up on my conversions, percentages, fractions, ratios, measurements excreta...
Hopefully soon I'll have more information!
well thats great shell! I have not received anything from DSN yet...I guess they moved you to the next start date! thats awesome that they are keeping you informed! I also applied for the july start, and am wondering if they send in rejection e-mails, or when they send in interview e-mails ? has anyone gotten an interview e-mail?
Thats great that you have that experience, for me its just the opposite! I have a 3.6 gpa and dont have any hospital experience nor my CNA. However, if I do not get into DSN im going to be getting my CNA in the summer.
Thanks for the info!! and Congrats! :)
I'm not sure about rejection emails. But I got my first email confirming about my start date. I was then informed i'd be contacted within the next two weeks by an admissions rep to set up a time for an interview and testing date. I got my first email on the 1/15/14 and now I'm waiting to hear from the admissions rep.
Cna experience is good. You get the hang of patient care and gross things that you may experience (ie. postmortem care) but I don't think it will be a big impact if you don't have any at all. Most of my friends who have already gone through nursing school have not used their CNA license.
I hope you hear something soon!

Also, I would re-take that class because im pretty sure they will not take a C- class for completion credit!
