Denver School of Nursing July 2014 Start

Published

Hello, My name is Sierra and wanted to start this thread for students applying to DSN and students at DSN to ask questions and such. I would like to talk to others applying!

I want to start off by asking: Since DSN does not have an online application process, we are supposed to send in our application materials. We can apply from November 15- January 1st. I know that the sooner the better send sending in applications, but don't know if I should/ could send in my application that Monday, the 11th? What do you guys think?

Hi Sierra!

I am applying to DSN for July 2014 as well. You're applying for the Bachelor Completion Program, correct? Did you end up sending in your application early?

-D

Hello!! I applied to DSN for the April 2014 start, I actually sent in my application September 27 and it was due October 1st. On November 14th (7 weeks after application Deadline) I received an e mail stating that I had been chosen for the interview!! I set up my interview for February so now the wait begins!!! I'll keep you guys updated! Good luck!

Hi Sierra,

I think you should turn in your application early. The sooner the better would be a good idea. I applied for the april 2014 start date; I submitted my application early in September for the October 1st deadline and received an email from DSN two days after letting me know that they have received my application. If you have any questions at all, Kelly from DSN is the gal you can contact. She's very prompt at responding to emails.

Ok thanks for your input! :]

Thanks! Were you able to get in?

Yes bachelor completion

No i have not sent mine yet! Busy with finals but definitely within the next weeks or so i will! Have you sent yours in?

I'm finishing up my BSN with DSN (graduating on Friday!) so any questions you have I'd be more than willing to answer if I can :)

Thats great! :) Congratulations!

Well i have heard some mix stories about DSN some people love it there some people hate it?

I know i cant believe everything i read online so I was wondering how your experience has been?

Clinicals, professors, your schedule, if the education given is worth the money DSN requires.

Thank you :) No one will ever be happy- that's impossible in this world. My experience was great, if you put effort into your school work, you will be fine. A lot of students seemed to not want to do that. I'm not sure what some of the bad reviews might say, but it might involve that. My clinicals were amazing. The clinical office does try very hard, but sometimes their communication was lacking. They have re-structured the office personnel so I really think they're getting better :) Just have to be flexible (hence why they say you shouldn't work). I know people that did work throughout nursing school but I would not suggest it personally. The money is a major factor, almost everyone had loans. It really is truly up to you if you think it is worth it- to me, I'd say so just because DSN fit my needs (BSN completion). The teachers are just like any other school- some are great, some aren't. I never had any major problems with any of my teachers, just treat is like you ARE back in COLLEGE. A lot of students in my cohort didn't do that, sadly. Either way, DSN is a special place, and I have no regrets about going to it.

Glad to hear it! Thanks for your comment. I totally agree! School is what you make of it! Im also going to be doing the bachelor completion option. Looking foreword to sending in my application!

Thats great! :) Congratulations!

I just completed my first semester at DSN! As of now, I am so happy with the school! I really think nursing school is what you put into it. The more involved in the school and classes you are, I really think the better your experience will be. We were sitting in the common area of the school yesterday waiting for our class and the final HESI exam and in comes boxes and boxes of pizza that the school ordered for the students as "brain" food to help us with finals! The school does care about us, and it is the little things (like pizza) that go a long way! The SNA (Student Nurse Association) is a great organization to be involved in, and I have had many great experiences in just my first quarter (making breakfast at the Ronald McDonald House has been a favorite)! Also, the Global Health Perspective Program is amazing and we have had some very moving guest speakers (Donor Alliance) this quarter, and my time spent volunteering for GPH helps me stay focused on my nursing goals!

I would stop reading a lot of reviews online, as many people only go online to complain. Is it perfect - no, but nothing is. The scheduling is set, and you have no choice. I am getting ready to start next semester with an all-day Saturday lab. Am I thrilled to be there on Saturday? Not really, but it is the reality of nursing school. You will find that you quickly bond with your cohort, and knowing I will be in class with them makes it better. For the money, I found DSN to be the same, if not less, than other schools offering a BSN degree in the area. It is another reality of nursing school. The financial aid office has been very helpful in having me set up loans so that I am paying the least amount of interest possible. So, even though I have only been at DSN for one quarter, I would recommend it.
