Does anybody have to do a declaratory order?

Yes, I sent mine in because of a DUI I got 8 years ago. From what I understand, the process can take months. I am praying mine will be done by January.

I did not get into El Centro, but I did get an alternate spot at another college.

I haven't even started it. I am waiting to do the fingerprints and have the background check come back. I have been arrested so many different times that I have lost track. Writing an explanation for each time would be impossible. I am hoping that only a few of the big ones show up and not the random overnighters that I've done over the years. I am hoping to do the first semester while waiting to hear back from the board and if it doesn't work out it doesn't work out.

@ mr doug dude if there just misdemeanors pay a lawyer to have your records sealed and closed and then when they go to do a background check it will say records not available and sealed. It is against the law for them to question why your records are sealed and closed. and you can skip having to go through all the riga ramoe of Austin trips to justify yourself to the board. now this will not work if you have felonies. only for misdemeanors only. Another thing is if sealing and closeing your records is not enough and you still end up having to go and justify yourself in Austin at the board of nurses, than what ever you do not and I repeat do not go with out legal representation there is something called a registered nurse lawyer who is an actual RN and Lawyer. look up a lawyer named --------- or any other lawyer of your choice I just heard from other Rn's that he is good. He is located right there in Austin and he represents Rn's in your situation all the time. now the reason I say is do not go to Austin rn board by your self without a lawyer to represent you is because of a friend of mine was telling me that a RN coworker of her made a huge mistake of going without a lawyer and the RN board in Austin put her through the ringer with all kinds of questions as if she were a criminal and was on trial and even made her cry and to top it all off she had been waiting from 7am all the way till 4pm in the waiting area before the board would actually even speak to her than they spoke with her and treated her like she had commited murder and all she did was get into a cat fight with another gurl and got asualt charges but the RN board treated her as if she was a hardcore criminal. she told my friend that she would never go Austin Rn board again with out legal representation (lawyer) she said the ones who showed up with there lawyers didn't even have to speak to the RN board they only spoke to their lawyers and they were in by 7am and out by 8am and went on with their lives. im telling you unless your ready to be physically and emotionally drained from sitting for 10 hours starting from a 7am appointment and getting screamed at and treated like a criminal to the point of tears. then feel free to go without a lawyer. if I was in those shoes though I would spend a little and invest in bring an RN lawyer to represent me it would be worth it. hope this advice helps you Mr doug

Just out of curiosity---why have you been arrested so many times? And why do you want to be a nurse?

I have one that has been in review for several months, 6mths so far and will take another month, and all for a misdemeanor that I was never convicted of! It was dismissed and I never even knew it was there, if I had, then i would have had it expunged!!! The process with the BON is grueling, I have been accepted to nursing school twice, had to sit out the first time and may possibly have to sit out the second time if I do not receive clearance by Jan 7th. The other poster is right, it you know there are things on your record then it is best to get a lawyer and get it removed so you dont have to fool with the BON especially if they are only misdemeanors. Or else plan on putting off school for awhile and having to agree to their conditions and stipulations which is what I am currently waiting on. I must first agree to their terms before they finally clear me and idk yet how sever they are....goodluck!

uh oh, I just noticed that you said you already had your fingerprints done, Its too late to get anything expunged, the BON will see whatever is there. Looks like you will just have to go through their process.

6 months? Wow. I don't understand why it takes so looong. This is so sad we have to go through this. The schools don't do a good job of explaining us of a Declaratory Order until it's too late and we have to give up our seats.

Can someone explain what we send first? Declaratory order with fingerprints or declaratory first then fingerprints?
