Does anybody else feel like I do? I'm so tired of nursing school. Just the thought of fall semester makes me want to roll over in bed and pull the covers over my head. What's wrong with me? Shouldn't I be excited that the end is in sight?

Do you have actual normal classes this fall? Which ones? I graduate in November and I just have to work with my assigned preceptor 180 hours for my fall quarter. I meet with my clinical group and faculty once a week, but no papers, no tests.

I had senioritis massively this summer, we go year round. You can do it, count down the days until you are done. Reading the posts of people just starting out helped, it reminds me of how exciting nursing school was at first and how bad I wanted it before I got burned out. What is your graduation date?

Specializes in Rural Health.

I just keep thinking - just 16 more weeks.........sigh..........

Specializes in psychiatric ER, Mental Health.

We have our last semester split into two. The first is like we have been doing all along (class/clinical). The second we have a preceptorship, more hours of clinical time, still classroom time, but the "meat" of the program is over from the first half. We have full 12 hour shifts this second half. (which is going to be an experience seeing as I work full time)

It should be a joy, really.

Best of luck to you, the end is in sight, but I also feel that I just dont know enough to be set loose on patients, and that just makes me not want it to be over.... I really CANT be a nurse yet, can I?

Specializes in NICU, High-Risk L&D, IBCLC.

Ah yes.....I'm a December '06 grad and I feel the exact same way. School starts tomorrow and I'm definitely not feeling it. I just want it to be over with already!

Yes, I have actual classes with lectures, tests, etc for the entire fall semester. We have to work our hours for preceptorship in around our classes and regular clinicals. I don't know, maybe I'm just being a whiney baby...but I'm just tired.

I think part of it may be that in 4-5 months I'll actually be out there working as an RN. I'm not really worried about the NCLEX (I'm sure that will change as the date approaches!), but it's just the thought of actually being responsible for patients. Me responsible for patients! Who are they kidding? I feel like a big fraud. No way do I consider myself a nurse. I feel that I only have a very rudimentary understanding of nursing and I've made good grades the whole time. It's not like I'm one of the ones with a C=RN mentality. Does everybody feel like this as the time approaches?

I totally know what you are feeling. My preceptorship is in the NICU of all places, NICU, life and death, what the heck....Little sick babies, their stressed out parents and me, ugh...I am one of the students with good grades; what if my book smarts don't cross over to nursing skills smarts.

Kylie,

Doesn't feel right to be so fatigued yet so underprepared, does it? Just know that both feelings are really common among students and new grads. If nursing school taught you everything you needed to know in order to be a good (or even perfectly safe) nurse, it would probably never end.

I tell people that, at first, I had to fight this reflex of looking over my shoulder whenever someone asked for a nurse.

I am right there with you guys! If I hear one more person say "you aren't done yet?" I think I will backhand them , then smash my own head into a wall...lol I keep telling myself only xx weeks as well....it just seems shorter that way! Once the 8 week mark hits it will fly by......I just wish it didn't take so darned long to get to go for the NCLEX test..where I live it's about 2 months from when you actually finish school and until you get into actually test....in Mass there is no longer grad nurse status but in the state I go to school in there is.........so I may work there until I can take the test.....I want to get my butt out there yesterday working...lol:uhoh3:

No kidding! I guess all of us nursing majors have been goofing off in school for the past two, three, or four years (maybe longer for some of you). :lol2:

I felt that way halfway through spring semester and summer didn't come soon enough. However now, I can't wait for school to start AND BE DONE WITH. I wish I could have started 3 weeks ago and been that much closer to graduation, getting a job, passing the nclex and being an RN finally.

August 28th first day of my last semester

December 16th -Graduation Day

Specializes in NICU Level III.

I'm sorta excited to go back ONLY because it's the last semester... my gosh, I can't stand this much longer!
