9/30/2020 -- Commission on Presidential Debates statement
QuoteThe Commission on Presidential Debates sponsors televised debates for the benefit of the American electorate. Last night’s debate made clear that additional structure should be added to the format of the remaining debates to ensure a more orderly discussion of the issues. The CPD will be carefully considering the changes that it will adopt and will announce those measures shortly. The Commission is grateful to Chris Wallace for the professionalism and skill he brought to last night’s debate and intends to ensure that additional tools to maintain order are in place for the remaining debates.
Additional tools to consider per the Twitter crowd:
a mic mute button? duct tape? isolation booth? ...Cattle prod? ...Naughty chair?

At the Debate, Biden and Trump Showed America Who They Really Are. That’s a Win for Biden.
An ugly debate can be a public service.
QuoteDonald Trump was talking at Joe Biden, and Joe Biden was talking to America.
That’s what happened Tuesday night during the first presidential debate of 2020. Trump was focused on smearing his opponent, and Biden was trying to connect with voters. Throughout the evening, Trump kept his sneering look fixed upon Biden, as he heaped abuse on Biden (and Biden’s son, Hunter). Trump rarely addressed voters. It was as if he was only bent on creating content for Sean Hannity. Biden, in a stark comparison, often peered into the camera and attempted to speak directly with viewers. At one point, Biden, while responding to yet another Trump assault on Hunter Biden, brought the debate straight to those watching: “This is not about my family or his family. It’s about your family.”
It was clear that the two men viewed their tasks rather differently. Trump’s goal was to bully and soil Biden. He constantly interrupted and talked over Biden, insulting him as much as he could (“there’s nothing smart about you, Joe”) and practically turning moderator Chris Wallace, the Fox News host, into road kill. He acted like a pathetic narcissist: Biden is the threat to his existence, destroying Biden is his only priority. He could not imagine a strategy beyond a DEFCON-1 personal attack. Reaching voters who were not already die-hard Trump devotees was not on his to-do list. Trump doesn’t give a damn about that. He only cares about the Fox-watching cultists who are already in his pocket....
Quote...But even with the bar as low as it was, the segment on race and violence was especially infuriating. Unsurprisingly, the three white men on the debate stage failed to meet the moment....
...Everything Trump does, from his disastrous coronavirus response (once he found out who was dying), to his dog-whistling about suburbs, to his fixation on immigrants, is undergirded by race. So, it’s no surprise that the segment on race, with an able assist by Wallace, produced the most truly alarming moment of the night. Wallace pointed out that Trump often falsely accuses Biden of not condemning violence from the left and asks him if he is willing to condemn right-wing violence. After Trump pretended that there is no such thing as violence from the right, Wallace name checked the Proud Boys, an extremist organization. “Proud Boys…stand back and stand by,” the president answered. It was far from a condemnation. In fact, it sounded an awful lot like an order....

White supremacy is 'most lethal threat' to the US, DHS draft assessment says
QuoteWhite supremacists will remain the most "persistent and lethal threat" in the United States through 2021, according to Department of Homeland Security draft documents.
The most recent draft report predicts an "elevated threat environment at least through" early next year, concluding that some US-based violent extremists have capitalized on increased social and political tensions in 2020....
My 35 mechanic/ IT savy son has been increasing telling me we need to be prepared for increased violence in the next 2-3 months -- and stocking up on food, water and Toilet paper.
There was reporting leading up to the debate that Trump's strategy was going to be try to make Biden stutter, which was effectively confirmed by Chris Christie who is part of his debate prep team.
Watching the debate with this in mind makes Trump's behavior seem less chaotic, although it also makes him look like even more of a scumbag than he already is.

I thought it was pretty obvious that Trump's entire strategy was based upon attempting to put Biden on his heels, to badger him into a stutter for the propaganda, and to create some illusion that Trump was powerful and Biden weak. That's the only strategy available to Trump.
It's pretty sad when the fellow who was marketed as a dementia victim looked comparatively thoughtful, informed, balanced, emotional stable and composed. Meanwhile Trump looked and sounded angry, belligerent, arrogant, rude and poorly informed.

I counted 5 false premises in that one paragraph. By the way, the post-debate messaging from what's left of the Trump campaign is that "sleepy Joe" who "refuses to leave his basement" is now "rage maniac Joe" stomping around, breathing fire, interrupting Trump and-- gasp-- name calling!

Yep. Trump support is shameless in its dishonesty and nonsense. Even among health professionals.

What is Antifa = " Anti Facist" definition from Oxford Language dictonary
Below is the statement and testimony FBI Director Christopher Wray made before the House Homeland Security Committee re US terrorist organizations ---that President Trump last night said he disagreed with -- he stated"left wing extremists" worse.
Trump's constant denials of government experts information is antithetical to effective government functioning and protecting US citizens from harm. Trumps statements that he knows better than anyone is truly distressing and in full view of US citizens last night. His "Law and Order" statements are directly opposite to his actions --he couldn't even follow debate order guidelines both campaigns agreed to.
What concerns me the most is that what I see with my own eyes... and our nursing colleagues outside the US state they see too, are ignored by other nurses and some of my own family inside the US.
Denial: It's Not Just a River in Egypt need to get our heads out of the sand! Suggest President Trump get an eye exam, decrease Fox TV viewership and watch more C-SPAN coverage pf congressional hearings.
Concerned for our democracy if the current administration continues for four more years.
