Deaconess Question? How many Sessions?

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Glad to see there are some successful Deaconess students here...I am sending off my application today. I am still waiting on my info packet, so I was just wondering if anyone can tell me if there are three full sessions (semesters) at Deaconess. The ON-LINE Catalog only lists a Spring & Fall Schedule. Do they offer the Nursing courses during the Summer also?

Thanks

Hey everyone...for those researching Deaconess...

There are three sessions offered per year, Spring, Summer, & Fall. The summer session is optional, especially if your third session of the PN compentent falls in the the summer...There are 216 hours of clinical time required for the Nursing Life Span II. That would be alot of clinical work to complete in just 10 or 11 weeks (however many wks are in a summer session).

Hope this is helpful!

So, help me someone. I applied for the summer session and did not get in and they said they would hold my application for the fall session..... when do they send out the decision letters for that session?? I am confused...

I am really hoping I get in for the next session. I feel like I have a really good GPA (3.525) but I needed a previous degree to get in for the Summer session. What do ya'll think?? Do I have a good shot?? Ahhhhhhh........

MommyNurseSarah,

Erin Kelly (admissions advisor) at Deaconess said that they are taking 40-45 applicants for the Fall 2004 and that 1/2 of them need to have their clinical arrangements made before the Session starts. So if you can get your clinicals arranged that would be another advantage to go with your good GPA.

I can't remember when Erin said the decisions for the Fall would be made, but feel free to contact her for details...she was so helpful when I called last week. Erin Kelly 314-768-5661.

Best of Luck and let us know what happens...I am applying for the Fall as well!

I didn't realize that the summer spots were only for people with previouse degrees. I just found out I got in for May, and I do have an AAS degree already. I knew that there were only 20 spots, though, so I didn't figure I'd get in with all the applicants....but I was just lucky enough I guess. GOod luck to you all! I can't wait for us to share some DCN stories in the next few months!

Lisa :p

Hi,

I did not realize that the summer session is optional. I am not quite sure that is optional for the online asn program. Anybody else have info on this?

Hi Mona,

I talked with Erin Kelly at Deaconess about this last week. I asked if I would have to do the third session of the web based ASN PN component over the summer. This session includes the largest amount of clinical work in the program. She said that if I wanted to break for the summer or just do general eds at my local community college that session, all I needed to do was let them know in writing what I was planning and it would not be a problem.

I wonder if this option is only offered if you will be entering the third session. I am supposed to start my first clinical and second semester in summer. I will have to complete the required hours, which I think it's 168 hours for the Peds/OB clinical. I am not sure of the exact hours though but even 168 hours will be alot over 10-11 weeks.

Do you know how many hours of clinicals will be expected in each session???

Good Morning!

This is the clinical schedule Erin Kelly gave me last week for the Web-based ASN with PN Component:

Semester I = 0 clinical hrs

Semester II = 168 clinical hrs

Semester III = 216 clinical hrs

Semester IV = 72 clinical hrs

Semester V = 72 clinical hrs

Semester VI = 72 clinical hrs

Total 600 clinical hrs

I do not want to suggest that the 216 hrs cannot be completed during a summer session, I just stated that if you feel that it might be more than you want to bit off in a short session, then you have the option of breaking during the summer or completing general ed classes with the approval of Deaconess administration. (This is something those starting in the Fall would need to consider...)

Right now I am not sure what I am going to attempt until I have finished Semester II, by then I might be flying through my clinicals and not want to stop... :coollook:

Hope this is helpful!

Just a little clarification here - No clinicals can be started unless you finish A&P I and II - I couldn't start my clinicals til semester 3.

Mona b, will you have A&P II and Clinical 1 (NR170) during the same semester?
