Deaconess Question? How many Sessions?

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Glad to see there are some successful Deaconess students here...I am sending off my application today. I am still waiting on my info packet, so I was just wondering if anyone can tell me if there are three full sessions (semesters) at Deaconess. The ON-LINE Catalog only lists a Spring & Fall Schedule. Do they offer the Nursing courses during the Summer also?

Thanks

I would have preferred to take the Weber course, but I have procrastinated so long that it would delay my finishing my program. My last day of class at DCN is July 30 and the Weber summer courses don't end until August something. Not like that it a really long time, but it then takes time for the transcripts to be sent and it can take awhile to get the graduation paperwork together for the boards from what I hear. I just don't want to have anything slow down my graduation (even if it is only by a few weeks).

As far as transferring to a BSN program, that might be a concern for anyone wanting to pursue a BSN. I already have a BS and don't plan on pursuing a BSN as there are several direct entry programs for MSN if you already have a BS in another subject. On a side note, I also had previous Chemistry credit that DCN would not accept. They would take the lab portion, but not the lecture portion. Weird huh?

Yeah, I'd say that was weird. I wonder if you could get away with taking a 3 credit chem class since they would take the lab from your previous chem class. I don't know if they would break it up like that but you never know. It sounds like you are good to go with the other class though.

Good Luck

Mrs Yost, I did sign up for the one starting March 1, so I guess I'll see you in that class! I've had a run of blessings this week b/c my friend is selling me her laptop and they just called from the mother's day out where my younger daughter goes and told me that they have an opening on Fridays so I can drop her off then (in addition to the Tuesdays that she already goes) and have time to study for this extra class!

Forgot to say that I did check on the BSN programs in my area (Texas Women's University and University of texas at Arlington) and they will accept any chemistry course as long as it is 4 hrs with a lab. I don't think I'll ever try for BSN as I already have a bachelor's and master's degree, but just in case I wanted to be able to transfer it.

did you guys all pay for this on your own or did you use some financial aid? I wonder how much financial aid they give to begin with based on this being an LPN program to begin with--I am aware of the FAFSA, etc//? Any feedback? hty/

Congratulations Amy on the run of good luck! "See" you in class on Monday.

Heatherbless, I did get some student loans, but have had to pay for quite a bit out of pocket. It will all depend on your financial situation (income, # of dependents, etc.) The courses that I have taken at other schools for transfer in to DCN (microbiology, chemistry, a&p, etc.) I have paid for on my own. Not quite sure how the financial aid would work when dealing with multiple schools.
