Hi everyone!
I think I have read every single post on this site regarding Deaconess School of Nursing. I printed part of the online handbook from Deaconess' site. It says that the "Associate of Science in Nursing and the ... are accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commision." However, further down it states that the web based programs "are approved by the Missouri State Board of Nursing." I am wondering if this means that the web based programs are not accredited by the NLN? I live in NC and am an LPN. I graduated in May 2003 from the LPN program.
I know..call my SBON-right? I would love to hear from anyone in NC especially!
Also are hospitals the only place that can be used for clinicals? Someone named Erin Kelly at Deaconess told me that there is a clinic in NC that has a Deaconess student. However, she is in the BSN program. I wondered if that is why she is at a clinic instead of a hospital.
Could I complete my clinicals in a state in which I do not live? I only live about three miles from South Carolina.

Hi verytiredmommy,
I pm'd you. Hope that helps.
I would really encourage you to call your SBON and DCN directly and ask these questions. As for the BSN student I have no idea but I have been told by students who are ahead of me in the program some of their classmates have done rotations in settings other than hospitals. I don't know which rotations but if you have a particular facility in mind, I would ask DCN.
Good luck, keep us posted.
On a side note, I like your screen name.

Hi--
When I was checking out Excelsior, I also talked with Excelsior's nursing advisors directly. If Deaconess is fully accredited, including their distance program, Deaconess should be able to tell you so.
Have you gotten anything specific out of any Deaconess students who are also members of this BB? If nothing else, they may know an individual or an office, and save you a little time hunting....
Your SBON will be helpful, but so will the NLN.
Do let us know what you find out, and good luck!

Since when? Did they loose their accreditation?

According to the NLNAC website, they are accredited, and are up for review by the accrediting committee in the Fall of this year.
Poe, do you have an axe to grind or something in regards to Deaconess? Whether you like the program or not, at least try to post factual information on these boards. I know absolutely nothing about the program, but I found that info in just a few seconds.
To post your opinion is fine. At least try to have the correct info when you post something as fact.
You're starting to sound like one of those closed-minded distance education bashers who think that there's only one way to complete a nursing program. Get real!
The traditional method is not for everyone, so get used to it. Take the route that best suits you, but don't assume that someone else is wrong for taking a different path.

I am interested in attending the online ASN w/PN program at Deaconess Schoolof Nursing now called Chamberlain School of Nursing. I've heard they are accreditied by the NLN but if you pass the ASN w/ PN web based degree where you have to set your clinicals up will all Boards of Nursing accept this school. For example my resident state is NC may accept it I don't know yet but what if I wanted to move to California. I have read about in the past a College Called Regents in NY now called Excelsior I believe had a similiar program but graduates would not be accepted in Florida or California I believe. Don't know if that was to sit for the NCLEX or through reciprocity as well. Just want to get this question answered before proceeding.

florida accepts ec asn grads that were previously lpn's. california does not accept current ec asn grads. but ec is working with the bon of california, to have them accept prior lpn's with an additional amount of clinical hours. they had a thread about this in the distance learning forum recenty, i am sure you can find it.
as far as i know, being accredited by the nln is not mandatory for nursing schools- it is still a voluntary process. now being accredited by the state is definetly mandatory, in order to be able to test for the nclex in that state. hope that helps you understand it better.......good luck!
