Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Anybody thinking about El Centro/ Northlake in the DCCCD for Jan 2006?

I am glad to have found this thread as well. Does anyone go to Eastfield? That's where I'm working on my prereq's since it's the closest for me.

Hasn't anyone heard of the El Centro satellite program at Presbyterian? You have to have all of your sciences finished before you apply, and it helps if you work there. You only have to work part-time to be accepted into their program. You will NOT go anywhere else in the DFW metroplex to do your clinicals. You will do everything at Presbyterian, and I've been told that it's a 3 day school week. They are flexible with your work hours if they know you're in school, and I've been told by many employees there that they will NEVER leave. They love it there.

You don't have to work there though. But they put all of the people in the program that work there first, and then they take "regular" people that apply through the El Centro site.

Let me know if you would like more information. I have met the person in charge there and she's great. I have her name if you'd like to talk with her.

Arlington may call themselves the Mavericks, but they are certainly in the UT system! I received my MSN in May from UTA, fully expecting my "master's hood" to be blue & white...the Maverick colors. Imagine this Sooner fan's surprise when it turned out to be burnt orange & white...UT colors!

LOL! I know they are definitely part of the the UT system. Did you know they used to be part of the A&M system? ....best of both worlds.....my two favorite Texas teams! HAHAHAHAHAHA

I tease my daughter about A&M...she is such a UT fan. I should go to A&M-Corpus Christi to get my RN-BSN. Gig 'em Aggies vs Hook 'em Horns....all under one roof!

ooooh better yet.....I'll be a Sooner....OH SHE WOULD HATE THAT! LMAO!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

(Yes....I hum the Sooner fight song during the Texas-OU game...errrr the whole weekend, actually! LMAO

A nice paramedic gave me a CPR card today at Brookhaven. :)

After I spent the whole day there and passed the test. :chuckle

ksparkman,

Can you tell me more about the El Centro satellite program at Presbyterian? Are you taking classes at the school or at the hospital? Any info you can provide would be appreciated.

Thanks!!

I am going to Eastfield. :) It is also the closest to me. I have never heard of the satellite program at Presby. I love that hospital! I had my 2 youngest children there and loved every min. of it. I would love to work there. Can you send me info? Thanks!!

Welcome to AllNurses.com, lexcourben! :)

I haven't heard anything about the Presbyterian program either. I would like to know more about it as well. :)

Ok, here's all the information that I know.

If you don't have a job at Presby Dallas, you will apply through El Centro. On your application where it asks you which location you'd like to go to, the first choice should say THR program. Your chances of getting in are slim if you don't already work there. I was told by Ellie Pamplin, the director at Presby, that for the fall semester they (meaning Presby) accepted all of their employees who applied to the nursing program, and they still had 16 slots left over for "regular" people.

You MUST have all of your sciences completed before you apply for the Presby location. They do not have any science labs there for students to complete those courses.

You will go to school AT Presby Dallas, and your classes are fed in via satellite from El Centro real time. If you want to ask the professor a question, you can do so through a microphone/handset.

You will do ALL of your clinicals at Presby Dallas. This is especially nice since if you are accepted into the El Centro/Northlake location you will be given the lottery of hospitals that you are stuck with.

I would recommend calling Ellie Pamplin. She was VERY nice to me when I saw her. It would really help if you had a part-time job there. Although, I will tell you it is VERY hard to get in. I've applied 2 times now and haven't heard from them. Although I wasn't very adamant on getting in at the time. You have to call and "harass" people in the HR department to get an appointment.

It's a very nice program from what I've heard. I was really trying to get in there, when we decided that I would just wait another 8 months and try to get into Baylor or TWU.

I hope this helps. If you have any more questions, please let me know. :)

Hi all

My name is Hali and i am new to this forum. can anyone please tell me where to find scholarship because i am in need of some help to pay for my pre- nursing courses. i applied to several and i often get contacted but eliminated because i do not meet few criteria. i do write beautiful essays and i so far have good grades but not lucky to get any little financial help. sometimes i have to be athletic, some times i have to have participate in some works at my college , sometimes i have to be over 35 years to get it. oh my GOD, any way they find a way to disqualify me from the scoloarship. i tried to get the CNA certificate to find a job but the cost of it is now unafordable because i am trying hard to pay for my credit courses. i do have a certificate in child care, i took it last year but the pay is around 7.5. i stopped working because i am trying to take courses during the day. any tips is very much appreaciative. thanks for reading my email and sorry for wrting much.

thank you. :imbar :imbar :imbar

Welcome to Allnurse.com, Hali.

Try talking to the financial aid office, for any new scholarships, call the TWC, think about a loan, etc.

Good luck to you! :)

Last I heard (which was July of last year) Methodist had (or ws going to start that fall) a satellite program with El Centro too. You had to be a Methodist employee. They paid for everything, books, tuition, supplies, uniforms. They were also offering a stipend. It came with an employment commitment.
