hi!

i am graduating from tcu and i have not heard anything about the dallas hospitals because we are in the ft. worth bubble! i am applying to dallas hospitals and have to accept one soon....ah! so, what do you know? do you have any information about medical city dallas, medical center of plano, baylor plano, baylor grapevine, and presbyterian dallas??? i need any information you can send my way to help me choose one!!!!!!!

thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

What's your particular area of interest?

As a new grad, your best bet is to land a spot in an internship program. It appears that Baylor Dallas (aka Big Baylor aka BUMC--yes, we pronounce it "Bum-See") and Medical City have the best programs, followed by Presby Dallas.

HR is more responsive in Medical City and (probably) Baylor.

All three hospitals are members of large multi-hospital organizations (Medical City is part of HCA, the others are more local), which will offer you the opportunity and flexibility of working in different settings later on, and all three are very large, with lots of programs to choose from.

If you want a calmer, less expensive setting in which to live and raise your children, you might consider a little bit north of Dallas--still close enough for the culture, but far enough away that you miss the intensity. Come on up to Grayson County. A couple of good hospitals (I just started at one), with lots of opportunity.

If I can be more helpful, please feel free to email or PM me.

when i lived in Dallas area i went to Parkland to work ED. Wow. Their Level I trauma/ED is very cool. VERY GOOD orientation. Getting CEN is expected and not hard since, hey, the things no one else sees just read about in the text books comes rolling in every day. Gotta have balance and a sense of humor or crazy making experience. should be on TV...oops they did that. multiple codes, multiple trauma and a very tight team.

I appreciate reading these posts too. I will be "grad-gee-ay-tin'" from nursing school here in GA in May. I am very interested in eventually relocating to TX. I would like to travel to Dallas, Ft. Worth, Houston and Austin to shop around for communities (daunting, I know because of the scale of the whole place). I appreciate the recommendations re: North Dallas.

Could someone please give me a little bit more of an idea of the personality of these places? Specifically the differences between Dallas, Ft. Worth and Houston.

And of course recommendations for places to work is great.

I am a very postive person (no gossip), professional, love to laugh and I am very excited (most days) about all that there is to learn in nursing...meaning that I will never be through with it. I am looking to be invovled with my community and part of a great team of folks.

As a bonus: I am also a great cook and love to bake to relieve anxiety (which means that I bake alot) these goodies are then distributed to my friends/coworkers :D . In short, I am a model employee!!! :lol2:

I am looking for a work environment that attracts and retains positive, friendly, professional, ethical people (I know, aren't we all???).

I appreciate when anyone in the know takes time to post a little a message in a bottle.

Come to Big Baylor!!! (Baylor University Medical Center) I have nothing but great things to say about Baylor. It is a very positive place to work, and there is definitly a "Baylor spirit". There is a strong focus on meeting pts' medical, emotional and spiritual needs. There are many nurses who have worked at Baylor for 20-30 years!

As a new grad, Baylor has great training. Most internships are about 12-14 weeks with classroom instruction in addition to working with a preceptor. I have found the nurses very supportive of new nurses and very little of dreaded "eating their young" mentality that you hear about in nursing.

Because Baylor is located in downtown Dallas, there is great highway access. Employees live all over the metroplex. If you are looking for inexpensive housing and a more small town feel, a lot of people live east of Dallas. Personally I live in a subarb north of Dallas. I like being no more than 10 minutes from SuperTarget, Rooms-to-Go, Starbucks, Blockbuster and any other store you can think of!

If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me.

I agree - go to Big Baylor! I worked in several of the Dallas hospitals and Baylor is the way to go. Professional and excellent ongoing education. I've been an RN for 25 years and I have a lot of respect for Baylor.

Are you interested at all in Peds?? Here at Children's in Dallas we have the only Level I trauma facility for children in the southwest, and there are many other opportunities for RNs throughout the hospital. Though I'm NOT a nurse, I have worked here for almost 12 years and I enjoy it immensely. My floor (cardiology) nurses and techs enjoy a great relationship with each other. We're busy but we have fun.

And for me...what's better than making life better for children and making some money doing it??

Just a thought.

Good luck with whatver you decide!!!

ITA with this too. Big Baylor is the way to go. You can train there and always transfer to another Baylor if you want a slower pace. Their nurses are top of the line. They have good benefits too...not too many hospitals do a dollar-for-dollar 401K match.

All of this information has helped so much! Thank you!

I got offered a position at Baylor and Methodist. Does anyone know anything about Methodist Hospital? If they were for the same area then I would go with Baylor but it's not and I am a little more interested in the position at Methodist.
