Curious questions..............???? (for those wishing to work in US)

Published

Just trying to come up with some more information that would make this site even more beneficial to all of you.....just need some info first........

1. How many of you are planning to come to the US as a new graduate vs. having at least two years experience in working as an RN in your home country, or any other country? If planning to come as a new grad, what type of information do you think would be the most beneficial for you to have?

2. Do you think going thru an agency has been more beneficial to you, or if you could direct hire, would that be your primary goal?

3. What would you be looking for in a facility? Location, salary, benefits?

4. Do you think that the contract that you signed is beneficial to you, for those of you that have already done so?

5. Which part of the country do you wish to work in?

How about posting links to useful information about the visa process, paperwork needed, sponsoring, etc.....in the international forum. :)

This is what I am trying to do....................there are already multiple stickies at the top of the page. Please read the first posting on this thread. :)

Hi suzanne,

I have a 41 months of ICU experience in my home country...

I prefer direct employers to agency because of the contract they make me sign ...

I look for all three things you mentioned, salary(the highest salary a nurse with similar education and experience is receiving in that particular area),location(less crime prone area with good transportation facility and a good weather as well as beautiful places to visit) and benefit(including career development oppertunity)....

I would like to work in NY city..

Here it is:

1. I have working experience ( almost 10 years , ICU/CCU and some other fields), but I will be like a new grad in the U.S.

2. Agencies are not interested in me because I am not flexilble enough . I am living in Massachusettes with my husband and kids ( on H4) .

3. Location is important for me, as well as benefits and salary.

5. Boston area

Hi

1. I qualified an as EN in 1984 but took a few years of to have my kids etc. Did my conversion to RN last year both for personal development and to enable me to work in the US. Most of my experience in in surgical nursing and for the last 3.5 years urology. Info on the difference working practices in the US and the UK would be benificial info but i think that I have seen a thread on this.

2. I was going to go through an agency but then found this site and changed my mind and am now going it alone - only because I want more choice as to where we will locate to.

3. I would like to work in the North East with a salary that would allow me to purchase a house and benifits that include health and dental insurance (not used to paying for it!!!!) Schooling is also an issue for me - would take a second or third best job is I thought that schooling was better in a cetain area.

Hi Kay,

we live in a very good school district north east . Houses are starting at 350.000 ( very small) average price is 500 . 000 $. The salary is higher compared to other regions but life is much more expensive here!

Hi Suzanne

been doing a bit of thinking re what your asking on this thread. How about something that covers contracts, i.e ideas on what would be a good contract and what to look for in a safe contract.

Good idea Anna :)

It was only after I talked to Suzanne that I plucked up the courage to negotiate my contract to my satisfaction.

1. I have 15 years experience as an RN, but as Kay has already said I will also feel like a New grad when I start over there!!!

2. Started with an Agency (that is no longer working) and felt its benefits in the sense of direction in the first few months..i.e. what forms to fill in, what the next step was etc etc. They managed to find me a job too, but I also found one myself...but I am actually taking the one they found me purely because it is more my kind of nursing at the moment.

3. Location, benefits, & salary are a big plus....salary for me is slightly above what I am paid now (not great you might think but I am a Manager now. so I guess the money will be better in one respect as I wont have so much resposibility as I do now). Location - well I am 5 mins from the beach, and the benefits sound good to me.

4. I havent signed a contract yet, I just have a letter of employment.

5.I am going to work in Vero Beach , Florida :) (hopefully any week now)
