CT Colleges Ready to apply for 2009!!

Published

Hello, I just thought to start a thread, for support and information for the future nursing students from Connecticut area. As we all know, it's hard to get in to the program. so let's try to work together with new advisements, precautions, suggestions and support. Does anyone is ready to apply this coming spring? has anyone has taken the TEAS test? :nuke:

Hi- I took the teas test for bhson last year, I scored 74%, I was put on their waiting list (big surprise). I finished my prereq's last May at HCC and in Jan 09 applied to St.Vincent's part time nursing program and was accepted YEAH!!!! It seems like everyone is appying to bhson, I don't here of many people saying that they are appling to St.V's. Their program is great and they have a part time schedule for those who have families and work. The best part is that they have a rolling admissions process, which basically means that they have admissions meetings every month- so you don't have to wait 2 or 3 months to find out if your accepted. I applied on Jan 2nd and got all of my paperwork in by Jan 20th and I got my acceptance letter by Feb 6th! I can't wait to start, I am sooo excited!!!!!:D

Did have all of your prereqs done for St. Vincents before you applied? Also did you have to take the TEAS before you applied?

Aw, just checked and you need to have Chem as a preq, which I haven't taken yet. Darn! I will have to wait to apply until I take Chem!

No, you do not have to take a teas test for st. v's. I did have all of my prereq's done before appying, the only one's that you do not need to take prior to appying are A&PI, A&PII and micro they are part of the nursing program at st.v's.:D

Thanks guess I have to wait and take Chem! Darn!

Please tell me I am wrong, but I was told the St. Vincent will not grant any liberal or science credit unless taken in their facility? I did not even bother to look up their program because that reason. ...as you know every school you want to get in is very monetary monopoly.please let me know your response.

I just read that they will take up to 16 credits (I think it was that much) as a transfer. I didn't see anything that said everything had to be at St. V's for nursing...

I asked about the grade they are looking for. I was just told the better you do the better your chances, Not the best response. I also scored either a 74.5 or 75.4 can't remember. I hope I do better this time but honestly last saturday was our first A&P II exam and I had to focus on that. So this week I'll be doing the review. Anywho.... The fee is 30.00 you pay that when you come. Milford Mama if you don't mind what was your GPA? and what was your waitlist number? Congrats on your acceptance. I am also applying to St. V's, but the cost concerns me as I have a BA already so financial aid is out of the question as I understand it. They sent me an application fee waiver that expires of 2/28 so I'll be sending it in asap. As soon as I get my reccomendation from my boss. I'll also be applying to Cohran, and Dorthea .. Hoping someone will take me.

Hey everyone!! About what Sandy said about St V's taking up to 16 credits is true... but like IR said when you try to transfer science classes ie AP I and II they make you take a test THEY supply and if you fail you have to take the classes from them. That is the rub... This is not to say St V's is not a good school, but lets keep in mind they are a private school and we have seen how that works.... Honestly I really dont understand why CT is behind in family friendly RN schools.... In New Jersery they have a school for nursing that is once a week. My girlfriend is seriously looking about that... I mean once a week?? the day is long... it like 5a to 9p... that includes clincial too.

Hi Regi!!! Miss emailing with you!

My GPA when I appied to BHSON I believe was 3.4. St.v's is a private school and does cost more, however since I am able to go part time i.e one class per semester, I can save for the next class while working. I was also told that in the second year people who had really good grades could apply to get scholarships of up to $4000.

Hey Sandy!! Milford mama, I just want to post this because if it was the other way around I would want someone to point this out to me.... That said, really think about going to St. V's.... its expensive... look around on these threads.... people are having a time finding jobs as RNs... even schools out of state (Cochran, Dorthea, Westchester CC, Bronx CC, Springfield Tech, etc) are cheaper then St V's... and you need to remember once you start taking the NUR classes, they usually dont transfer. I am beginning to see why the state schools are overrun, because of the price. Just take heed, thats all. I hope you get in where you want, and not have to pay so high a price.

Godspeed, Regi

Sandy, whats the update on you??

I personally will be applying to any and every school that will take my application. Lol. But if St Vincent's is the only one that bites, I'll have to go in that direction. And if none of them bite, well I'll probably have a tantrum or something. :crying2:. Being honest I'm no slacker but I don't have a 4.0 Gpa and my teas test results so far have been mediocore. In CT that normally translates to waitlist. So if one schools lets me in I'll have to go there. and when I graduate I will have no problems working nights, weekends, far from home, in a nursing home or who ever will take new grads. Does anyone know if working as a cna or emt helps your chances of finding a job after graduation?
