CSUSM ABSN Fall 2021

Published

Hi all, anyone planning on applying to CSUSM's ABSN for Fall of 2021?

I think my overall points are between 40-41, do you think it's a safe score? I was wondering if I should take the TEAS exam again, I got 80.7, but I'm completely exhausted. I completed all the 8 prerequisites courses and TEAS in only 12 months and I need some rest, LOL

Hi! I also would be very interested hearing about this (since I still have to take 1 prereq course, my initial score- inevitably- won't be the 'real' one).

May I ask- what makes you think you won't get it for Fall? You did really well on TEAS.

Interestingly, It really seems like CSUSM needs people for the Summer' 21 cohort...  so many here have been enticed with an offer for an earlier start.

I am hoping to get my points soon, so at least I know where I stand.

Cheerios!

Based on this forum it seems like they've let people in for Summer '21, but I don't think Fall '21 cohort has been notified yet. I bet people start finding out in the next week or so.

And the reason I don't think I'll get in is because my last 60 GPA for this app cycle was a 3.05 (terrible I know, I'm pretty ashamed about it actually), and my pre-nursing GPA is a 3.4 (I took english 1 and chem during undergrad and got Bs in those, and I got a B in both semesters of A&P). So I think my points are 28 (but I haven't gotten my score report back yet either so I don't know for sure.. we should be getting those emails soon).

But on the bright side, after my 15 units of A this semester I should jump up to like a 3.55 for last 60, and I'm retaking English 1 over the Summer along with whatever other 3 unit class I can get enrolled in. And assuming I get As in both of those (I feel confident I can), my pre-nursing GPA will be a 3.5 and my last 60 GPA will be a 3.65, so my application points should go up to 36, which MIGHT get me in. And if it doesn't, I'll just keep taking more classes and work as an EMT until I get in!!

And yeah, thankfully I did great on the TEAS! It took me a really long time to figure out how to succeed in school, and study in a way that works for me. I'm still making up for the (hundreds of) academic mistakes I made during undergrad.

I think 36 should get you in- unless the Fall-21 is ultra competitive. According to stats, 36 has been an average in quite a few semesters, so you should be good.

I am changing careers, from fashion design into nursing. So I had such a long list of classes I needed to take. And now just one more left! It is amazing how perseverance makes all the difference. I can totally relate!

Hi everyone!

I’m wondering if anyone knows whether the Summer ‘21 cohort has been filled up yet? Has anyone else received offers for a Summer start? I have 45 like @Rominha, so I figured I might have received an offer for a Summer start (I definitely would have considered it if I had gotten offered a spot!), but no dice yet ?

@koverny when did you submitted your application?

I finished my application on Jan 15 and got my point evaluation from the school on March 9. I hoping that others accepted a Summer ‘21 start date before they got to me, and it’s not that my application isn’t completed or something ?

I wonder if our Fall decisions will be delayed until they get the Summer cohort filled. By my count we should hear by May 5th, hopefully sooner. Anyone brave enough to reach out (aka bug) for an update?

Anyone else here with foreign degrees?

Also- anyone else applying early w/o all prereqs? If so, how do you supplement your application later with finished prereqs?

Hi there! I am also applying with a UK degree. I first tried to apply for Summer 21, but like you I didn't have all my prereqs completed. They basically couldn't give me an evaluation because I did not have those final results in, which of course meant I wasn't considered for Summer 21- they have told me they only make the evaluations once everything is completed and handed in to CSUSM. They keep all your documents and details though in the system for I believe a year. So you don't have to keep re-sending them your transcripts if you are to apply again for next semester.

I applied on March 10th and I'm waiting for my evaluation. Going to contact them in a couple of weeks about it if I don't hear anything.

Hope this helps??

This waiting is driving me crazy ?

Thanks so much- it totally helps!

It is weird that they say to submit application once you have taken the TEAS, even w/o all prereqs, if they won't start any type of evaluation... seems somewhat counterintuitive. Did they advice you on anything?

I am also feeling a little bit frustrated as it seems almost impossible to get into a class to fill my last prereq, micro. All classes for Summer are filling up super fast (I have registration times for all SD colleges). I am registered for micro w/ UCSD ($900) just in case, but because it is in quarterly system, it will delay me getting my results in August. This in turn might stop me from being considered for SP'22. Has anyone else struggled with not getting into prereq classes? If so, how did you manage not to pull your hair out in chunks? : /

@Finskaflicka I took Micro w/ Lab at UCSD Ext last Summer as I was concerned that with Covid I wouldn't be able to get it done. The cost wasn't fun, but I'm glad I opted for that route to complete it. In order to complete A&P I had to take them at different schools as well, Grossmont and City. Most people I know have had to jump around and work the waitlist to get the stuff they need.

I will say the Micro class is quality I really learned a lot.

I'd also echo what others have said I don't think your evaluation will be considered complete if you are missing anything from the required nursing core. That said you can submit updated transcripts, so if you complete Micro a little late but before they make decisions (I think end of Sept is when they have made the Spring ones in the past) you could probably still be considered.

I took Micro at Portage Learning. It is at your own pace and you can start anytime. Might be a bit cheaper than UCSD.
I would have rather have taken it at a CC but it didn’t fit my timeline.

Thank you so much- glad to hear the UCSD class is worth it!

I totally acknowledge that since my application is not finished, I should be at the bottom of the list of priorities for CSUSM. It is just frustrating as I was told by the school to get incomplete application in asap so they can start advising me on my application (am I missing something else et cetera). It looks like there was no point in me rushing to take TEAS and getting an application in if it just gets moved into the next pile for next semester review. I hope I am making sense?

So- when you do finish a 'pending' prereq- do you just email the transcript to the same email address you sent the others? Thanks for all the advice!
