I noticed that there wasn't a thread posted for CSUN ABSN 2015 yet so I thought I'd start one I'm currently a student at CSUN finishing my BA in psychology (I will be graduating this December). I can hardly wait to start nursing school! I wanted to start this thread so us CSUN applicants can get to know each other.
I was wondering what your GPA was when you applied for the program? Was CSUN the only program you applied to? Did you apply to any grad schools for psych, or were you certain you wanted to go the nursing route? I'm still a sophomore, so I have quite a bit left to go, but I'm really set out on going the A-BSN route after I graduate, and I've been trying to do as much research as I could.

I'm assuming this question is for me? Lol. My GPA when I applied to CSUN's ABSN program was 3.6 overall and 3.9 in my pre-reqs. I also applied to other programs such as: CSUCI, CSUSM, and UCLA (MECN program). I actually just found out yesterday that I got accepted to the ABSN program at Cal State San Marcos no, I did not apply to any grad schools for psych because I'm absolutely certain I want to be a nurse.
I've always wanted a career in the medical field, especially as a nurse. To be completely honest, the only reason I didn't pursue nursing earlier was because I was intimidated by the science classes. I finally told myself to get over it and just give it a try. Turns out it wasn't hard for me lol. However, I will say it takes a lot of hard work to make it through the pre-reqs with straight As. I know that's nothing compared to the nursing classes though lol.
Since you're a sophomore you still have a good amount of time to get your pre-reqs done. If you can, just make sure you try and take no more than 2 of them at a time with your other degree classes. Especially for the chemistry class, I would recommend taking that science class by itself with no other pre-reqs. It will make it easier. Are you currently majoring in psych? I hope i sufficiently answered your questions

Sorry, I don't really know how to use this website lol. But I go to CSUN too. I'm actually a Communicative Disorders major, but thinking of changing it to Public Health because most of the pre-reqs are similar to most programs. I was wondering if you ever got B's in any prereqs. I'm looking up the professors for some of the prereqs and it's sort of discouraging haha. Which professors did you take? I know there's only one professor for Anatomy and Chem 103, how were those classes? Also, what would you say was your worst pre req? Did it take a long time to complete school because of the prereqs added to your major? Did you take the TEAS exam? How was it? What was your score?
Also, I have an interest in Psych, but I brought it up with my advisor, and she said that the program might not accept people with BAs? I'm guessing it isn't true because you got in lol. Sorry for the amount of questions btw.
Yea that's quite a bit of questions lol. Well first you should decide which programs you're interested in. Because different programs accept different classes from different universities/colleges. Yes, taking pre-reqs along with my psych degree classes made earning my degree take an extra year. You need to space out the pre reqs along with your degree classes otherwise you'll be taking 16-18 units and your GPA might suffer.Quote from jannesSorry, I don't really know how to use this website lol. Since you go to CSUN, I would recommend you speak with XX. She's the health professions advisor and her office is near Chaparral Hall. Once you tell her which programs you're interested in, if you decide you want to go to nursing school, then she will map out the rest of your semesters and help you plan your courses. She's great. And she will definitely tell you that it doesn't matter whether you have a BA or a BS when it comes to getting admitted to an accelerated nursing program. ABSN programs or entry level Masters programs for nursing accept students from a wide range of majors and degrees. However, I've heard at several info sessions that the most common majors that are accepted are Biology, Psychology, and Public Health. I know it's easy to be discouraged by the pre-reqs, but if it's something you really want then you can do it!
Oh and to see if you're really interested in nursing I would highly recommend you get some volunteer experience at a hospital see if that environment and experience is really for you

So I think I'm ready to take on my science classes now haha. But question, there's three Chem classes I need to take because of my major, nursing pre req, and pre req for Micro Bio. Is that what you had to do? Minus the one for my major.
Also, I just started volunteering last week! Honestly, I had the same issue as you. I've never had a a horrible problem with nursing. I just always had a fear of needles/blood, and that was my reason to stay away. But throughout my year and a half at school, I've always found myself wanting to go into nursing, but I would see classes like Chem, and I would decide to stay with Com Disorders. Was Chem all that bad? I hated it during high school. I passed, but I didn't understand it at all.

I'm not sure which Chem class you need to take. That would be a question for --------------------------. I only took one chem class, the one at Moorpark that was integrated. Yes, it was hard, but not impossible. Just takes a lot of extra time put into studying and going to the teacher's office hours to make sure you understand.
Hope you enjoy volunteering! For me, the blood and needles doesn't bother me at all. It was just the science classes that intimidated me but I'm over it lol. Not as intimidating as they seem.

I actually spoke to her the other day, and she showed me the suggested classes if I wanted to transfer by next year, instead of graduating and applying to ABSN programs. It was Chem 51 during the summer, Micro Bio/Anatomy/Physio all during the fall. So I'm definitely going to go the ABSN route, and make another appointment with --------------------. I can't risk my GPA dropping for the sake of transferring as soon as I can lol. I might as well get an extra degree while I'm here.
It was Chem 100 for the Public Health, Chem 103 for nursing, and Chem 102 as a pre req for Micro. What integrated class was that at Moorpark? And what would that course be equivalent to at CSUN? Dr. Richardson told me to take Chem 51 at a CC, which transfers into Chem 100/103 (idk if it can transfer to both), but she never mentioned that I needed Chem 102 for Micro until I spoke to an academic advisor.
And thanks! And yeah, and I've heard plenty of people who are scared of blood and needles, but still somehow do it. I just have to suck it up and hope that I get desensitized to it. Well all that matters is that you passed them, and got into a nursing program haha. Good luck btw!

Has anyone been "provisionally admitted" to CSUN??? This is what it says on my portal....
You have applied as a Graduate in a 2nd Bachelors program for the Fall Semester 2015, as a Resident. You have indicated an academic plan of Pre-Nursing.
You have been provisionally admitted to CSUN.
