I noticed that there wasn't a thread posted for CSUN ABSN 2015 yet so I thought I'd start one I'm currently a student at CSUN finishing my BA in psychology (I will be graduating this December). I can hardly wait to start nursing school! I wanted to start this thread so us CSUN applicants can get to know each other.

Thanks for starting the thread !

I still don't know if I'm applying. This program/school is ideal but I don't know if I'm a competitive applicant.

I have a BS in community health and an undergrad GPA of 3.8. However, my science GPA is 3.28. I don't have hospital experience but I have interned for nonprofits and was involved on campus. I don't know where that leaves me.

Hi! Your undergrad GPA is definitely competitive. I just attended an info session for this program last Friday and they said they accepted students to the previous cohort who had anywhere from a 3.3-3.9 for their undergrad GPA and about 3.7-3.9 for the sciences. For any nursing program you are considering applying to its strongly recommended by most if not all programs that you get some kind of experience with patient care. I volunteered at Providence Saint Joseph's Medical Center in Burbank for about 102 hours. Do you live in the area? 

No I don't , I live in Long Beach.

My internship experience does involve participating in a program that provides medical services/screenings and I do work with those patients however it's only during events.

I think what worries me the most is my low science GPA. I read last years thread and it seems that people with similar experiences, background, & grades got a call back for the interview but we're not accepted into the program in the end.

Hi! Yes, we are supposed to submit all documents in one packet. I'm not sure how to convert quarter units to semester units though 

@lagirl I think they want us to address all the questions in a single essay

I went to their info session about a month ago and I asked a question about the personal statement. We don't have to answer each of those questions but at least a few of them. The person speaking at the info session explained that the questions are a guideline for what you should write about. We don't have to answer all of them because that would be too much to address in only a 2 page paper. However, I would recommend double checking with the department and emailing them or calling. Hope this helps.

@ElizabethH736 thanks for that info!

Did they happen to mention anything about admission statistics, like average GPAs, number of applicants ect?

Hello, I applied for CSUN's ABSN 2015 cohort too. I also attend CSUN and I'm graduating this December too with my BA in Child Development. I'm so excited to finally be applying for the nursing program :)
