CSULB Spring 2015

Published

Hey everyone,

I want to apply for csulb nursing program for spring 2015 cohort, is there anybody here who is applying for spring also? Do you think spring cohort is easier to get in?

Trimester students graduate Summer 2016 and Semester students graduate Spring 2017?

Those are the final semesters for each cohort.... I believe Graduation would be around Fall '16 and Summer '17.

From what I see, Trimester will be harder for sure... they cram a full loaded schedule of 12 units--16 (or so)weeks of information for each class --into 10.... and that has to make a considerable difference....

You have a heavier patient care from the start....And... you really have no time to decompress between semesters...

in addition, financial aid does not cover summer semesters. That will mean 2 semesters of out-of-pocket tuition payments... or loans... (for those of us that have to pay our own way... ouch...)

There are a lot of things to consider for both decisions... like limorgolan said... if you like fast paced torture clinicals....lol.. choose Trimester... although he is thriving like a boss...lol, he seems to be second guessing his decision.....

I suppose...if anyone is planning on getting into competitive masters programs, they should also consider which program would possibly benefit their GPA the most... or what would be a more reasonable pace to pull as many A's as possible....

Actually Joe Friday, I was wrong. The way Trimester works it is just a faster pace than basic. It depends who you get at the beginning, but there is one professor who is actually your lecture professor for N200, she does it differently from everyone else. The way everyone else does it is in the first few weeks you learn all the skills needed to go to the hospital, including injections, BP, pulse ox, physical assessment... and then you go to the hospital and begin taking care of 1 patient in the first week. The second week, depending on the census of the hospital (Long beach memorial has a high census, therefore having enough patients for each student to take 2 patients), you will do 2 patients in trimester and maybe in basic as well. Just the census of the hospital of the basic program determines how many patients you will have. I think basic is the better choice in my opinion because you do get a break in between semesters. If you get the professor who teaches the lecture as well, you get lucky, she's amazing and the way they do it is different. And by the way, I a m a girl! :woot:

That's ok, you couldn't have known!

Does anyone know the date of the orientation? She told me when I called last week (before the e-mail went out) and I was too excited to hear that I was confirmed by the SON that I forgot the date in Dec.

Anyone?

I remember she said it would be on Dec.20. Is that right??

At the communication exercise, I was told that they were thinking of making the orientation on December 19th. I'm pretty sure that was just a tentative date but it should be some time around that.

Don't worry, they will email you with the date and details. You guys made it! Good luck to you all! I hope you guys do well. I may be in your cohort just for 200 cause I am struggling in clinicals right now.

She told me it was Dec 13th at the interview
