CSULB Nursing Fall 2021

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone! As CSU applications open up, I wanted to start a thread for all of my fellow pre-nursing students looking to transfer to CSULB!

I’m calculating my science GPA by using this website https://gpacalculator.net/college-GPA-calculator/ inserting the four major science classes: A in Chemistry (4 units), A in anatomy+lab (4 units), A in physiology+lab (5 units), and I inserted a C for Microbiology (5units) since it would be considered a C since it will be in progress. That all together put me at 3.44.

For my pre req GPA I’m counting (oral Comm, written Comm, stats, critical thinking). I don’t know my GPA for that yet since I’m barely going to finish a critical thinking class this semester.

It drives me nuts that I have to take 10 units of Chem just to meet CSULB's requirement, when it seems most people only need four or five units because of how the class is taught.

Hey everyone,

I was on CSULB's website for their "common questions on the supplemental application" and their first video seemed to show the application for Nursing (although I'm not 100% sure). If this is correct, it showed Nutrition as a recommended class and asks for a grade too. Was anyone told that Nutrition was a recommended class for CSULB's Nursing admission or know if it'll influence our chances of admission?

Thanks so much for clarifying the transcripts, I got worried when I read that hahah! I calculated the GE GPA off of the GE requirements (stats, oral communication, written communication, and critical thinking). I got As in all of those courses except I am planning on using an AP test score to cover the written communication, I’m assuming they would just not count that towards my GPA and only use the 3 courses instead? Let me know if you know anything about that! Will you also be applying for fall 2021? ?

Hey friend!

That's what I thought! I will also be using an AP score to cover statistics, and AP scores don't contribute to your GE GPA. But I got As in those courses as well, so it won't really make a difference. I am applying for Fall 2021 and I'm nervous as heck! Guess we'll be going through the process together, best of luck to you!! ?

I just got my TEAS scores back! Here are my stats for CSULB:

GE GPA: 4.0

Science GPA: 4.0

TEAS Reading: 78.7%

TEAS Composite: 88%

IDK why I bombed the Reading section so hard but I nailed everything else :,)

If I calculated my score correctly it should be a 9.33 ?

Yup, looks like you calculated correctly! I think you have a shot honestly! From what I’ve read the cut off for the group interview in 2019 was 9.32 so you’d make it! I’m not sure what it was for 2020 haha but if anyone knows lmk! Best of luck to you.

Hey everyone,

I still need to take my TEAS test but am confused as to how to register online for the exam? Did you guys register with "TEAS", "TEAS at ATI", or "TEAS at PSI"?

As far as I can tell, there are no TEAS PSI locations open to take the TEAS in-person in California.

They are all remote proctored, so you need to use TEAS ATI.

I picked TEAS because I wanted to do it as CSULA since I'm applying there, but it still ends up being remote proctored at home.

Thank you so much! In that case, does the location you register with for the TEAS matter? After taking the exam as CSULA, were you able to send in those scores to CSULB and any other program as well?

I'm not taking it until Dec 16th, but location shouldn't matter. You have to pay for the electronic transcript results that you want sent to a school. You should be able to do it through your ATI account that you register for online. That's the info I have been seeing on the ATI website when I registered!

Always check with each program you are applying to and see what their TEAS requirements are though! Every program I've looked at was clear somewhere on their website how they wanted their TEAS score and by what date.

Thanks again, I'll definitely be contacting each school for their specifics. Good luck on the TEAS!

Hi guys,

I want to take TEAS in January. Does it allow you to choose whichever date you want to take the test or it chooses for you?

Where should I start to prepare for the TEAS?

Thanks in advance!

Hi! It does let you sign up for a date and time you want. However, the times listed are in Central Time Zone, so have that in mind when you sign up. When I signed up for my test, I signed up too late so only the 5:30AM slot was left for the date I took off work so I had to take it. I would sign up ASAP so make an account now, and check periodically for the January dates to come out.

I would start preparing for the TEAS about 6 weeks beforehand (general recommendation). The test is very doable, with proper studying, you'll do just great! I recommend getting package of your choice (Practice Tests, Study Manual, Online Modules) from the ATI website. They give you only the information you need to know, which simplifies the test greatly. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions!! ?
