Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone! As CSU applications open up, I wanted to start a thread for all of my fellow pre-nursing students looking to transfer to CSULB!

Congrats on getting in! I got this email, I guess I’m still on the alternate list

What was your impaction score if I may ask?

Hi everyone!

I will be denying my admission to CSULB since I will be choosing to attend another program. Hope this helps out another applicant and best of luck to you all! ?

Which program are you accepting your admission at?

Did anyone else get into SDSU as well? Even though LB was my top choice, for some reason I am getting super anxious about committing ? Trying to decide between the two!

My dilemma is either CSULB or CSUF. Anyone have any knowledge which school is “better”?

I would say CSULB. They’re currently ranked as the #1 nursing school in California and #2 in the entire country. They also have a 100% NCLEX pass rate, which is a sign that it is a very good school that adequately prepares its students.

I say CSUF I’ve heard great things! go tuffy the titan!

IMO,

SDSU > CSULB > CSUF

Honestly, the only big difference between them is location. They're all public commuter schools with relatively similar tuition rates, good reputations, and high NCLEX pass rates. So if you're having trouble deciding, just figure out where you want to spend the next two years studying.

I will say SDSU stands out to me because I heard the dorms are really nice, the weather in San Diego is perfect, and it seems to have a more social and outgoing culture.

Take my words with a grain of salt. There is no objectively "better" school between the three. You won't regret choosing one over the other. At the end of the day, I genuinely believe that your experience is dictated by what you make of it. Any subtle differences between the schools are insignificant and will be overshadowed by the friendships & connections you make, the opportunities you take, and the hard work you put in to make the most of your education.

Small factors I took into consideration: SDSU is a 3 year program whereas I’m hoping to take the semester 2 year route at csulb. Personally would’ve considered sdsu more if it didn’t come with such a big “party school” title and afraid that’ll bring up any concerns in the future but don’t get me wrong, I’m talking about stereotypes, not the quality of their program or school, and either way I’m not sure if that’s a big deal considering that nursing is difficult anywhere and everywhere we go. Something I thought was really cool about SDSU’s program is that they REQUIRE their nursing students to take an international experience to increase awareness. Besides that, I’m picking CSULB bc of huge factors like family, location, and expenses.

I know what you mean though, I’m set out for CSULB too but it’s a little sad at the same time to think that I’ll be missing out on this San Diego culture, social life, and overall ability to live in and become part of a different city. Wise words from @Cenovial, I don’t think there’s currently a notable factor that makes 1 school absolutely superior than the other. It’s what we make of it!

Oh I didn’t know about the 3 years & international experience. I mean maybe it’s not as simple as I think it is, haha. But definitely if you’re having trouble and money or time isn’t an issue, location is an important factor to consider.

Thank you @cremebrule @Cenovial !! I actually live in the Bay Area right now, so I'm basically just trying to pick which Southern California I'd rather be in! I understand that SDSU has a more outgoing atmosphere than CSULB as I've heard that as well, but I'm also taking into consideration that because we are such small cohorts of nursing we are bound to bond with each other. Other than that, 3 years is sort of a long-ish time and I guess I have to decide if that is worth it for me. Academics-wise, LB has a higher pass rate than SD, but it honestly depends on the student. I also have family and a sister in the area so it would be nice to be near them, but I honestly don't know. Really wish I could've gone there in person and toured! ?
