CSULA Fall 2015 Nursing Applicants (BSN BASIC)

Published

I've been reading the thread of CSULA Fall 2014 nursing applicants & wanted to start one for this upcoming CSULA Fall of 2015. I am extremely eager to know how many points people have. I have 24pts & am going to retake my TEAS this upcoming November. Those who are interested as well, please don't be afraid to comment!

If there's anyone that follows this thread that's going to apply for next year, I started a thread for us CSULA Fall 2016 nursing hopefuls! I realize it's a little early, but I figured it would be nice to have a place where we can ask questions, offer advice/support, compare stats, etc. Check it out, so we can keep in touch and help each other out! :) If you search "CSULA Fall 2016 Nursing (BSN)" you should be able to find it!

@goalkeeper,

I understand you're probably not able to post clinical locations, but I'm very curious about that component! So did you start going to the hospital during your 2nd quarter then? That's so soon! I'm very excited!

@shinfo I've been researching on which school to choose between LB & LA. I personally think LA has a better program. It's nice to think that I could be done in 2 years at LB, but I'd rather choose LA bc of their ranking. LA here I come!!!

Rank 25

(Late reply, I know)

CSULB isn't even on that list of schools. From everything I've heard CSULB has a better program. They have higher NCLEX pass rates and overall CSULB is one of the top CSU's. The application is also more competitive for CSULB. Not saying that CSULA does not have a good nursing program (I've heard it's great) but I wouldn't say that it's better than CSULB.

Hi Dannydgk,

Well, I really love it. I did not expect to be making friends in the program, but trust me you'll need them. They are the only ones who'll understand your struggles and successes for the next three years! The professors/instructors are also very approachable.

In regards to the schedules, they usually differ. The lecture part is where you see all the students in your cohort, however when it comes to the lab/clinical part sometimes there will only be 10 students in your class. Also, they will let you choose which days you want, but keep in mind that you will not always get your first choice (or your second, or your third..) that is when you have to be flexible (or find someone who is willing to switch lab/clinical days with you).

The good thing about the first quarter of nursing school is you do not have clinical rotations yet. I think this will help you transition to the curriculum.

Be prepared to deal with Bs, Cs etc. By the end of the day, it really is about making it to graduation.

There's just too much to say, but if there is any thing you want to know more just post them.

Congratulations again everybody, you guys have earned it!

thanks for the info!

Ive heard that some people have had trouble with financial aid because the units for each quarter does not amount as a full time student; is this true?

^ that's something I'm interested in as well. How does financial aid work for quarters?

thanks for the info!

I do not know about their situation, but mine covers all the cost. As much as possible I try to get an extra unit (non-nursing related) to make myself a "full-time student".

Does anybody know anything about EOP?

Thanks. That good to know!

I applied but I haven't heard anything from them

I have a question about prerequisites. Hopefully one of you can help me out. I've asked my counselor and I called CSULA, but I'm still confused! So we need two English classes - 101 and 102? And we also need a critical thinking class? On assist.org it looks like they are requiring ENG 102, my school calls it 104, and they also want another critical thinking class like philosophy or something like that? Did any of you guys take philosophy, or did the second English class fulfill the critical thinking requirement?

Hi. I believe CSUs require you to take critical thinking and an English course as a transfer requirement.

  • Area A — English Language Communication and Critical Thinking

The two English courses are first year composition and second year composition.

For nursing school it is really the second year composition that they need, but first year composition is a prereq for second year comp so that is why they are both listed. You have to take those English courses as well as a Critical Thinking course. Good luck!

Hello everyone! I've been lurking for a while and finally decided to post. I was accepted back in early April and I am very excited to finally begin nursing school!

My stats are:

Prereq: 8 pts

Overall: 5 pts

TEAS: 10 pts

Experience: 2pts

= 25pts
