CSULA Fall 2015 Nursing Applicants (BSN BASIC)

Published

I've been reading the thread of CSULA Fall 2014 nursing applicants & wanted to start one for this upcoming CSULA Fall of 2015. I am extremely eager to know how many points people have. I have 24pts & am going to retake my TEAS this upcoming November. Those who are interested as well, please don't be afraid to comment!

If we're already accepted into the program and we're currently taking microbio, the grade we get won't affect our admission status right? As long as we pass it?

Admission into the nursing program is contingent upon students passing with atleast a "C" in prereqs so as long as you get a "C" or higher you are good

Do you know how many got waitlisted?

I am waitlisted for Fall 2015

Hello everyone, Im new to the post. You can add one more name to the list. I got my acceptance letter for this Fall 2015. Ill calculate my score and post in a few.

Also waiting for my acceptance letter to the LA County School of Nursing and Allied Health. Apparently they send their letters sometime in May. But Im choosing CSULA first.

Has anybody started to think about quitting their jobs in the next few months? I currently work fulltime and thinking about how ill manage.

Hey guys I wanted to know your thoughts.

I applied for nursing BUT apparently I'm missing something in my application so I was not accepted. However, they accepted me in for Public Health BS. In the email it says that I can request to change my major to nursing and go through some sort of process.

So I've got a couple of questions if anyone can help me out:

1) Is it easier for a CSU student to switch to an impacted major?

2) Is CSULA a known and respected nursing school? My dream school would be MSMU but I wasn't accepted this year because apparently I'm missing something from their application too :(

From the Fall 2014 thread, it seems they do not reveal this information.

We only know who self-reports here!

I'm in this odd position where I need to get a part-time job so that I have taxes to file for the following year's fafsa! :/ But I'm not sure anyone will want to hire someone for only a couple months.

But I definitely know I don't want to be working during nursing school. From everything I've heard, it would be very difficult and stressful.

Hi allinone..

I am sorry about what happened. They do get really strict for the reason that they have to go through 500+ applications. I'm here to try to help out. I am currently one of the students in the BASIC BSN 2017 cohort, and I can answer some of your questions to the best of my knowledge.

1) Is it easier for a CSU student to switch to an impacted major?

- the nursing program follows a point system. It's easy to declare pre-nursing as your major, unfortunately CSULA does not give supplemental points to their own students. so accepting their offer for Public Health (etc.) will not help you accumulate extra points.

2) Is CSULA a known and respected nursing school? My dream school would be MSMU but I wasn't accepted this year because apparently I'm missing something from their application too :(

- Well, CSULA seem to leave a good impression to the hospitals and nurses around California. For the clinical rotations, you can choose from many of the prominent hospitals here in LA (I am not sure if i can post them here).

Again, i am sorry about your situation. What ever you decide, CSULA also offer ABSN and (i think) ELMN. Good luck!

So I know the orientation day is the day before classes start which seems super last minute to me. Has anyone received any additional information yet about background check/any other info to get done in the meantime/this summer?

Hi dchaves07,

Congratulations on your acceptance! I was in your situation not too long ago. I accepted CSULA's offer and will be graduating in 2017. Regarding your question, After you've mailed/faxed your acceptance to the SON, you should be receiving a yellow envelope that include the additional requirements (such as background check, immunizations, titers, TB tests, physical exam, etc) that you'd be needing for clinical rotations, etc.. All of which you have to complete, i think, by the 3rd week of Fall quarter.

Good luck and enjoy your summer!

Hi goalkeeper,

Would you mind telling us your experience in the program so far? Are you enjoying the program/professors? If you don't mind, I'm sure we would all like to hear what a typical week looks like for you. (I.e. clinical, class schedule). Thanks!

Hi Dannydgk,

Well, I really love it. I did not expect to be making friends in the program, but trust me you'll need them. They are the only ones who'll understand your struggles and successes for the next three years! The professors/instructors are also very approachable.

In regards to the schedules, they usually differ. The lecture part is where you see all the students in your cohort, however when it comes to the lab/clinical part sometimes there will only be 10 students in your class. Also, they will let you choose which days you want, but keep in mind that you will not always get your first choice (or your second, or your third..) that is when you have to be flexible (or find someone who is willing to switch lab/clinical days with you).

The good thing about the first quarter of nursing school is you do not have clinical rotations yet. I think this will help you transition to the curriculum.

Be prepared to deal with Bs, Cs etc. By the end of the day, it really is about making it to graduation.

There's just too much to say, but if there is any thing you want to know more just post them.

Congratulations again everybody, you guys have earned it!

Usually how many hours are you in class each week? I just want to know exactly what i should be looking at when it comes to work and school life balance.

This is our third quarter in the program, we have one day a week where it's 12-6p. For the reason we have two lectures in one day (Med-Surg and Pharm). For clnicals, it is a four-unit class but we stay in the hospital for 12 hours. So you will be spending more time outside school studying on your own.

I have learned that you won't really know how it will go until you're officially registered for the class. Good luck!
