  1. Hello cookiemuffin, I would definitely invest in one of those wheeled backpacks. You'd wanna protect your back because the books are huge and very heavy. on my first quarter, I used to bring all of my books to school because during breaks i usually read. But now, I don't. I try to leave my books at home and just try to bring the ATI books and the smaller med-surg book i bought on my own. As far as the whole class goes, most of us seem to stopped bringing our books by the second quarter. i hope that helped. Good luck and congrats!
  2. I do not know about their situation, but mine covers all the cost. As much as possible I try to get an extra unit (non-nursing related) to make myself a "full-time student".
  3. This is our third quarter in the program, we have one day a week where it's 12-6p. For the reason we have two lectures in one day (Med-Surg and Pharm). For clnicals, it is a four-unit class but we stay in the hospital for 12 hours. So you will be spending more time outside school studying on your own. I have learned that you won't really know how it will go until you're officially registered for the class. Good luck!
  4. Hi Dannydgk, Well, I really love it. I did not expect to be making friends in the program, but trust me you'll need them. They are the only ones who'll understand your struggles and successes for the next three years! The professors/instructors are also very approachable. In regards to the schedules, they usually differ. The lecture part is where you see all the students in your cohort, however when it comes to the lab/clinical part sometimes there will only be 10 students in your class. Also, they will let you choose which days you want, but keep in mind that you will not always get your first choice (or your second, or your third..) that is when you have to be flexible (or find someone who is willing to switch lab/clinical days with you). The good thing about the first quarter of nursing school is you do not have clinical rotations yet. I think this will help you transition to the curriculum. Be prepared to deal with Bs, Cs etc. By the end of the day, it really is about making it to graduation. There's just too much to say, but if there is any thing you want to know more just post them. Congratulations again everybody, you guys have earned it!
  5. Hi dchaves07, Congratulations on your acceptance! I was in your situation not too long ago. I accepted CSULA's offer and will be graduating in 2017. Regarding your question, After you've mailed/faxed your acceptance to the SON, you should be receiving a yellow envelope that include the additional requirements (such as background check, immunizations, titers, TB tests, physical exam, etc) that you'd be needing for clinical rotations, etc.. All of which you have to complete, i think, by the 3rd week of Fall quarter. Good luck and enjoy your summer!
  6. Hi allinone.. I am sorry about what happened. They do get really strict for the reason that they have to go through 500+ applications. I'm here to try to help out. I am currently one of the students in the BASIC BSN 2017 cohort, and I can answer some of your questions to the best of my knowledge. 1) Is it easier for a CSU student to switch to an impacted major? - the nursing program follows a point system. It's easy to declare pre-nursing as your major, unfortunately CSULA does not give supplemental points to their own students. so accepting their offer for Public Health (etc.) will not help you accumulate extra points. 2) Is CSULA a known and respected nursing school? My dream school would be MSMU but I wasn't accepted this year because apparently I'm missing something from their application too - Well, CSULA seem to leave a good impression to the hospitals and nurses around California. For the clinical rotations, you can choose from many of the prominent hospitals here in LA (I am not sure if i can post them here). Again, i am sorry about your situation. What ever you decide, CSULA also offer ABSN and (i think) ELMN. Good luck!
  7. Hi there, i, too, was in your position not so long ago. If you have a score of 23/24, it's either you get accepted or wait-listed. however, there will always be a couple (or several) applicants who will reject the acceptance for many reasons. Hang tight and good luck!
  8. Was anyone else's tuition fee for 8 units amounted to $2000?
  9. you have to go to atitesting website and update your institution to CA STATE LOS ANGELES, then choose Purchases and Payments. If you don't see it let me know. Good luck!
  10. I've noticed that CSULA has open nursing classes available for us now, however we can not enroll just yet. Better plan ahead guys! :)
  11. The final transcripts are not due till July 15
  12. I am not quite sure what to do yet. Most likely I am going to confirm my alternate spot in LACC, but CSULA will still be my first option. Congrats and Goodluck to us!
  13. they also have English 103 (Composition and rhetorics). I've taken it last semester and it compose entirely of critical thinking topics that i really enjoyed. It might just depend on what your professor's scope / curriculum is. Do you go to one of ghe LACCD?
  14. Yes, i talked to someone in the admissions office and thats what he told me. It's just because i have a class in progress
