CSUF ABSN Fall 2021

Published

Hi all!
I just wanted to create this forum for students who are applying to CSUF Fall 2021 for the ABSN program in case we had questions for each other, wanted to share thoughts, stats and to support each other through this journey.

Ugh I'm a combination of sad, upset, defeated and enraged LOL. I cant believe they would deny students for something so trivial and irrelevant to nursing. In addition to that their wording was misleading/confusing. They used the words send AP scores " if applicable" and "not required" on the application. Do you think there's any way we can appeal this? We have screenshots as evidence of the misleading instructions.

In my experience with CSUF you can appeal but I would not get my hopes up for any solution. I was denied admission for 2.5 years until I went there in person throwing a full-on tantrum one day and they "found" my transcripts that they "never received" and admitted me on the spot. I decided not to attend any cal states after that. Personally, I wouldn't waste any more time on them and just move on to whatever your plan B is.

Edit to add the program is full. So even if you work it out you will probably have to wait until the next round.

Wow I'm sorry you had that experience. I'd be so upset. Do you mind if I ask where you are in right now in your nursing journey? Its so discouraging when things like this happen. It feels like theres only one straight path to nursing so it helps to hear other peoples' struggles in the application process.

If AP scores are noted on any of your transcripts I would assume they must be attached to show completion. I think the topic came up during the info sessions that they held. Personally I don't have any AP scores so I didn't pay attention to that portion.

However, I did have to follow-up on my official transcripts because the 3rd party service had failed to send them to Admissions. I had to contact admissions to confirm receipt twice. They had trouble locating the first set due to my last name being different on record (alumni). I'm glad I triple checked that stuff and verified that they had all my documents.

Unfortunately I did not attend any info sessions. I wouldn't have made that mistake if I knew they were necessary. I emailed them to make sure they received all my other transcripts and they did. Other schools did not require AP scores to be sent unless they were relevant to the prerequisites. I guess the bright side to this is I will never make that mistake of assuming again.

That was back in like 2017 and I completely gave up on school for a few years. I worked as a medical assistant and went on with my life. When covid hit I decided I wanted to finish and enrolled in a private school. Stanbridge in Irvine. I know it's not for everyone and the majority of people think it's utterly stupid to pay that much but it works for me. There are a lot of options if you are not on a time constraint. Moving out of state for school, getting an ADN at a community college then doing the BSN online while you work, you can even go through like ROP and get your LVN and take it slow if you want. There are also private (not for profit) schools with RN programs around here. Don't get down on yourself over something so trivial. You will get over the small set back and you will accomplish your goal!

Thank you for sharing! I'm glad that you didn't give up on your dream. You sound like a caring and smart person. I bet you are/are going to be a great nurse.  This helped me feel a lot better, you're right.

This is really odd! The admissions office replied to my email with this:
"

Hello,

Thank you for your email.

If you do not wish to use your scores for credit or if they cannot be applied for credit, you do not have to send them

Best,

CSUF Admissions/KV"

So it sounds like if you don't want credit for your AP scores or if they're not passing scores then you don't need to submit them. I definitely think everyone who got denied because of AP scores should appeal.

That is weird. But I see that your email is from CSUF admissions but the girl I've been emailing with is ------------------------- from the school of nursing and this is wat she replied to my email. I'm really confused.

If you email SON, ------------------- or ------------------------ are admins that will reply. Usually directing you to contact CSUF Admissions & Records if it's about sending transcripts, etc. But specifics to the SON application should be answered by the SON admin team. They're really nice compared to other programs I've contacted.

I'm actually going through a similar issue at the moment, but with their RN-BSN program. I took some AP exams in high school but since I didn't pass any of them I didn't report them on my CSU application. I wonder if I would still need to send in my AP scores or not ?

hello! I also took some ap exams in high school and didn't score anything higher than a 2 and didn't report it to csuf and I didn't run into any problems.. I hope this helps

I'm sorry to everyone else this is happening to. It's really not clear that you have to send AP scores even if you're not using one for a pre-req. No other school I've applied to requires an official score report. I honestly didn't get the best impression from their admissions staff, especially during one of the information sessions. It makes me wonder how supportive or flexible they would be during the program, since they weren't very helpful during admissions.

hi guys, I have no idea what's going on with your applications ? I just got an email saying that they are finished checking all other parts of my application and that they are not starting to review my cumulative GPA. maybe you can try emailing them since AP scores aren't a requirement.

Hi all,

I also applied to the A-BSN program at CSUF for 2021. Does anyone know if this email is in regard to meeting the requirements to be able to apply to the program or if they have reviewed all aspects of the application and now they are doing the cumulative GPA to compute our total points (if they are doing a point system). Does anyone know when interviews are conducted? Also, what is the class size.
