CSU Fullerton Fall 2010 applicants?

Published

Hi everyone!

I haven't seen any postings from CSUF EL-MSN Fall 2010 applicants! Are there any of you out there? I received my complete checklist about two weeks ago and was curious if anyone else has heard anything from the school?? Good luck to all of you!!!

A part of me wants to turn down the admission offer and shoot for the MD or DO school. I tried flipping a coin six times to let fate decide but I got 3 heads and 3 tails. It's not fate but it's me that gets to decided. Turning down the admission for nursing school is risky cuz I am not gauranteed to get into med school. I will have to put some perspectives on a balance scale and see if I really want to turn down the csuf admission. In the mean time, I accepted the CSUF offer.

From what I was told, most of the people on the alternate list last year got in. All those of the alternate list, hang in there because you still have hope until the first week of september.

If you haven't even taken the MCAT yet then it is a big gamble. Its a beast. Unless your practice scores are at least 27-31 already then I'd be hesitant to attempt to tackle it if I had an acceptance at nursing school waiting. Also, med schools will kill you for having no health care experience. You can always get it, but that will take time. You do have a 3.7 though and military experience! Oh no, I'm having flashbacks of late nights on student doctor network forums in undergrad. You mentioned interest in a CRNA program too so you have obviously thought it through. There are so many options in nursing which is what I love about the field.

Just close your eyes and trust your instincts, if its not for you then it will just hit you at some point probably in the next 4 months. That's what happened for me and med school. I just suddenly blurted out, "i don't want to go to med school while filling out my application and writing my personal statement" and my boyfriend was like "what"? I was like "I know, but I think I want to do these nursing programs instead". A year and a half and 5 more classes later I'm IN.

Haha, sorry for the long story...but goodluck really, and just know that you are not alone :)

I am so glad that I am not alone out there. You're a female, nursing is respectable for you. Males aren't readily respected as nurses yet. My friends sure made fun of me a lot for wanting to be a nurse. I am being called a murse (male nurse). I'll get my revenge someday when they get to be my patient.

I have until August 21st to decide because this is when the first day of school starts. I am getting health care experiences right now at Hoag Hospital as a clinical care extender. You're right about the MCAT. It's is beast!!! I looked at the MCAT study guide, it has a lot of material that I don't remember from school. I wished that I never did a brain dump of all my science courses.

Hi everyone. I just got news of acceptance for CSUF. I can't wait to meet all of you! I was hoping to get some of your thoughts on something.

As far as keeping my options open in the future, I have been looking into advance practice nursing certificate programs, such as CNS, FNP and others. I noticed that many of you have talked about getting CRNA certification. Most that I have found say that a BSN is required. I am sort of confused as to how this applies to Entry Level masters students like us. As far as I can tell, our program has a leadership concentration, but I am not sure what that really translates to as far as certification wise. Is there a bridge program or something like that for students like us who want to be certified without enrolling in another master's program? I'm sorry ahead of time if this is confusing to read or has already been answered.

Thanks!

This el-MSN is confusing. Every staff that I spoke to gave me a different answer. I don't think that they have a solid structure for the program yet because it is still in its infancy. Dr.------- told me that there will be changes in the program as it progresses and she urged us to give feedbacks so the program can head in the directions that will benefit us. Last year's orientation for the program, she told me that we could go into the CRNA program from the el-MSN but it will take us longer, around 5-6 years total; we would have to to work a minimum of one year full-time and switch to part time schooling. She is hired to be in charge of the program, she is the best point of contact for any questions. She told me changes can be made but it is all up to us to communicate with her and the staff.

I agree that it is confusing! I think you're right, the program is still in its infancy and that is probably why things are a bit up in the air. I checked into some post-masters certificate programs at Azusa and I was told you can apply to the MSN program without a BSN degree, as long as you have your MSN degree and an undergraduate-level Health Assessment course. Ideally, it would be perfect if Fullerton had a program like CSULB. I would rather go to Fullerton than long beach as far as facility and faculty, but long beach gives you a BSN, MSN and CNS or NP status. Either way, I feel grateful to get into fullerton and I guess those specializations are things that I can always add later. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself. I just want the best bang for my buck and get the most out of my time.

Congrats to those alternates that got in!! I am still waiting, hopefully some people are still deciding! Have any other alternates heard anything? I feel like the cohort might be full! :(

Dont worry. The people on the alternate list was offered admission has until May 7 to reply. The next wave of admission offers goes out in a week. Hang in there. Most of the people on the alternate list got in last year.

Haha, thanks for replying to my impatience! Is that how it works? They wait for each deadline? I was talking to some of the CSUF students during my interview while I was waiting for my one-on-one and one of them told me to not worry too much if I was on the alternate list because she was number 24 and got in. How she figured out what number she was is beyond me, but that kind of worries me that there are more than 15 of us on the alternate list!

Congrats on getting off the alternate list, and good luck with your decision if your still deciding! I have read on a couple other blogs that some of the accepted CSUF students are still deciding.

Just out of curiosity, future murse does what your application status say on your cal state fullerton portal account mean anything? For some reason mine keeps changing? Has yours changed at all?

On the titan online, under student center, my admission states "Your application file has been sent to the department for graduate review. If you have questions, please contact the department. Graduate program contact information can be found at http://www.fullerton.edu/graduate/."

Under the department of nursing student account, my application status states "pending".

I hope this help.

Don't worry, you'll get in.

I tried calling but they are clueless and useless over the phone. I noticed that the staff over the phone at csuf don't know anything. If you want answers, you have drive to the campus and talk to them directly.

Yeah, you answered my question perfectly because that's exactly what mine says. Probably what most of our says, because when I called the graduate office she said the ultimate decision is not ours it's the nursing departments.

I'm so jealous your in!! Congrats again!
