I know on the front cover it says to register the book to access student materials. Sometimes if you buy a book used and it has already been registered, you cannot access this information. Our ELM group is so small, I'm sure a lot of us can share the extra material. Just got an email with the new book list for N260 and patho/pharm/nutrition. Check your emails!

Hi, I first checked out the Elsevier bundle and noticed that it included most, but not all of the books for $743.25. I saw that I could get much better prices through Amazon for the same books (I'm talking about the physical book, not the e-book. If you want the e-book too, Elsevier may have the better package). For example: Medical-Surgical Nursing: Patient-Centered Collaborative Care, 2-Volume Set on Amazon costs $106.60 new or used for $90.61. On Elsevier the same book costs $130. Some of the books come with a cd or access code new, with supplemental materials, such as practice quizzes and animations, so for those books I bought them new. Books like The Patient's Voice, I bought used, because they do not have these extra features. I remember that some of the ISBN numbers were a little bit off, so I checked out the pictures on the Elsevier website bundle here: http://www.shopelsevier.com/package_shop.php?CSID=QTT0QQM0MCT0CUDCMKTATOOTO and matched it with the ones on amazon. With taxes and shipping my total for all the books was 440. Hope that helped!

I wanted to let you guys know that Concordia in Irvine is a private, Christian school and they offer a one year accelerated BSN and RN program. I think the program costs around 40,000, but it is just one year. Sounds expensive, but just wanted to let you know. Good luck with everything!

It was at CSULB. I think Fullerton's orientation is in the beginning of August

I just bought all of my books from amazon for 400$. I bought all the ones that come with a cd new and 2 used. I thought it was the least expensive way to go. As far as financial aid, I haven't been offered anything yet, but I was only added as a student during orientation, so it might take longer ( I was an alternate). Are ELM students awarded only loans because of already having a bachelor's?

I haven't received an email back saying anything about me declining admission. I'll probably call monday if I don't hear by then and make sure they got my email. Keep your hopes up! You never know what will happen!:)

I was just looking at the elsevier website and the bundle was around 740$ and that wasn't including all the books. I think when you buy books new, they usually have an access code or cd for supplemental tests, animations, and quizzes. Is it worth it? I don't know. During orientation, something was said about getting the online version of the book and the hard copy. I thought the online version was even more money. I think I'm going with half.com and amazon! I don't have that kind of money to blow through! Are these books for the entire fall semester or just for nursing 200 and 202?

KRomney-Good luck with whatever decision you make! Congrats on the interview! You should be an interview pro after Fullerton's! I couldn't believe that people were falling asleep either. I was thinking, after all this work with the application process and pre-reqs, why risk getting kicked out for falling asleep?! There was so much information, I didn't even want to leave and use the restroom, never mind sleep! Originally I was alternate 6. I thought it was nice that they let you know up front what your number was. Then when I arrived at the orientation, they handed me a folder that said alternate 1, so I thought it was a mistake at first. I definetly feel very blessed to get in. :)

I totally agree. I think a lot of students will drop out to enroll in another MSN program or they will continue on with their masters in leadership and have to enroll in a post master's certificate program or another master's degree later on (if they are interested in advance practice nursing). It seems like a waste of time and money to get the MSN-CNL and then have to enroll for another program later. The person I spoke with said that after completing the RN portion, you could drop out a pursue another MSN, but you would have to apply to that program specifically along with everyone else who is applying to that program (I'm sure it doesn't look too great that you dropped out). She also said that most of the MSN concentrations require a year of experience as an RN in a specific area before one could be considered for the MSN program. When I suggested that the power-point slideshow indicated that we could choose a concentration, she said that "the slide in the powerpoint does not show our program as a path to choose a concentration, rather it shows that upon completion of the EL-MSN program it is possible to continue on into one of the specialized areas." To get into one of those areas, however, you have to complete additional education, be it a certificate program or another master's. I was hoping that being a graduate from fullerton would help you out during the application process, but she also said that there are no extra points given in these programs to students who have graduated from CSUF. So for me, it just came down to more bang for my buck. I could do more with CSULB in less time. I truly hope that Fullerton will be able to better assist EL-MSN students in the future and be able to offer them the same opportunities that CSULB does for their EL students. Irregardless, any graduate from either school will become an excellent nurse. I definetly didn't mean to discourage anybody and I'm sorry if I did! I just wanted you all to know what I found out, because I thought the program was different. I wish you the very best!

Oh, I hope you get in! The staff seemed so cool. Many of the ELM people I talked with were really freaked out. I'm sure some will drop out, it is definetly an intense program, especially the first half. I don't know if you noticed, but some of the ELM people never showed up to orientation and other people were falling asleep during it. I couldn't believe it. I thought I heard one of the instructors say that if you didn't show up to the mandatory orientation, your spot could be filled. You have a great chance! Best of luck to you as well.

Hey guys, I'm emailing CSUF and letting them know that I no longer wish to go there. That should open up one spot. It was a hard decision, but I was able to get into Long Beach and feel it is a better choice for me. I wrote before about how I thought it was odd that Fullerton won't allow you to specialize in any area besides leadership. At Long Beach, I can get a BSN, MSN and choose any area that I want for advance practice. I know that some of you have said that your overall goal is CRNA and that is why you are going to Fullerton. I just want to let you know that I've been emailing Fullerton back and forth and they have told me that even if you are in the Entry-Level masters program, you still have to reapply after 2 years of experience to the CRNA program, just like any other student. I asked if points were awarded to graduates of Fullerton and asked if EL-master students like us would have a "leg-up" on the competition and the answer was no. Wherever you choose to go, great opportunities will arise, but I just wanted to let everyone know that leadership is not advance practice and that was my main concern. When I first went to the information session, the power-point handout lead me to believe that I could choose mid-wifery, or CRNA during the masters portion, but that is not the case. Fullerton is still a great school and I wish you all the best. JeanClaire: I hope you get into Long Beach! I was alternate 01 and wasn't offered admission until mid-day of the orientation. What did you think of their program?

The changes in 2015 might be only for NP's, not sure though.

CSULB: PRO: BSN with public health, MSN with CNS CON: Rude people, less financial aid CSUF: MSN with leadership ONLY PRO: maybe leg-up for CRNA program, nice people, nice campus and labs CON: No advance-practice certification, no BSN I'm in the same boat. I like Fullerton more, but you earn way more with LB. I wish Fullerton would offer the CNS like LB. Good luck with your decision!
